Went on a field trip today. Perfect weather, high 60's and lots of sun, for a hike. As we were getting our group ready to leave, I overheard some parent commenting on how it's always the same old parents doing stuff at the school like we were a bad thing!?! Had I not already taken my field trip (antianxiety) medicine I would have smarted off with a reply about how it's always the same old parents not doing anything while the others carry their weight, but I didn't. It feels really good to tell you guys I felt that way. I've worked so hard to get away from clicks at our school and to try to meet every parent and get to know them and their children. I guess I'm getting really sick of listening to the complainers while I'm doing the work.

On a different note, the day I found out I was pregnant with my first was the day of the Oklahoma City Bombing. Talk about a real memorable shift in life. I was still on maternity leave with my 2nd when Columbine happened. I became a stay at home mom shortly after September 11th (we called it a making life count decision). I was pregnant with my 3rd when we went to Iraq. The funny thing is, I can't remember when I got pregnant but I know what made me check myself as a parent and make it count. My husband, on the other hand, will talk about stuff he did in high school and quickly follow it up with a "don't think you'll get away with that" to the boys.

Hubby found out the hard way that being deficient in the mammary category doesn't stop a starving newborn from giving it a try. He made a quick mental note: always wear a shirt when holding the baby. :eek:

When I went back into the hospital and hubby was solely responsible for weening said newborn he very carefully removed his shirt, held the bottle between his arm and side and, again, very, very carefully raised the baby up into the classic nursing position. Ahhhh, success.

Im right there with you Luv - my daughters know that mommy has owned and fired all sorts of guns and bows/arrows. And they love to pull out my antique shotgun (no amo around for it!) and look at it. Then the quesitons begin: have you ever shot anything?.......and just goes down hill from there!

I really hate not being in a community that teaches fire arm safety and education. The only way to be safe around them is to respect them and know what NOT to do with themj!

I know CC, it's hazy memories sometimes isn't it? I sometimes get myself in trouble because I'll make some statement during a conversation that relates to something I did pre-child and it could be something I didn't really want to let my kids know. I slipped up a couple weeks ago when my son and one of his friends were helping me get supper ready and they were talking about my son's upcoming birthday gift of a new pellet gun. My son brought up that my dad had shown him a revolver and, stupid me, I said "Was it his .22 or my .32?" Well, that started a whole new direction to the conversation......
