Wait.... There was a time before we were mothers? Oh, yes, I seem to remember..... ;)

I agree - you're the best d!

dlf, what a fine example you are to your son. He gets the opportunity to see that moms do so much more than just "mommy stuff". Often times I don't think our kids realize that there was a time before we were mothers where we did other things.

I went to a party on Sunday for a Marine returning from Iraq...the war I went to was no where nearly this intense. I only had to stay 8 months ... and only got shot at by missles...a lot less accurate then guns...these men and women are heros...and I hope they can find a way to have them reenter society with grace. A friend of mine had a young woman come home without a chin because of a little present left by the insurgents on the road way...on a brighter note...
The other day my 4 year old said "I want to be a soldier like daddy was when I grow up" and I said "Mommy was a soldier too (and actually outranked daddy although I didn't throw that last part in )." Little Danny said "No way Mom, you're a mom"....Old soldiers never die...we just become stay at home moms .

Hey d! Congratulations on a successful event!!! It sounds like everyone had a lot of fun. I'd never heard of Trunk or Treat until I started coming here. Now I live in North East Alabama and nearly every church has a sign advertising a similar event for tomorrow night.

My son is 13 now so he won't trick or treat. He's too excited about the release of Never Winter Nights II. It's been pushed back so many times so I really hope it actually comes out....

I just got word that my brother is, as expected, suffering great pain and misery at the hands of his commanding officers at Fort Knox. He's 27 and not even the oldest recruit in basic training. He said there's a 40 year old man who enlisted the same time as him. I say GOOD FOR HIM!!!

I got this via email today and thought I'd share it.

Subject: Thought for the Day

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America, he said:

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in ... And how many want out." Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ
2. The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."

Phew--Trunk or Treat was HUGE!!!! We had probably 600 people there, amazing trunks and men looking around saying "Next year we're gonna get it on!!!". One lady decorated her little convertible like a big spider using PVC piping...we had a big, huge tractor come in, generators running electical lights...really cool stuff. Then the monster mash came complete with a fire alarm set off by the smoke machine. The folks loved this and it only cost us about 350 bucks by the time it was all said and done. Great community builder!!!
