I understand the grand idea behind everyday math, I just feel they shouldn't give kids homework that they know the parents will not be able to do. I don't usually get the answer sheets unless I request it (too many cheating) but I don't know to request until I'm pulling my hair out. My 5th grader has lots of shape stuff lately that I have absolutely no clue what to do with and it seems abstract, like they give you 4 shapes and ask you to cross one out and tell why it's different and the others are alike. I think my son, husband, and myself spent at least an hour on that one page! And it wasn't on the answer page, either. AAAHHHH!!!!!
Today is picture day so my oldest wakes me up early to see if I will touch up his buzz. Weird little kid is just gearing up for military life. I told it I can't see straight until my 1st cup of coffee so he made me some.
Shawn-girls are the worst about that click and bully stuff. (I know from personal experience.)That's why I only have boys!!

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

Crazy & ScottMom,

It's the Chicago Style Everyday Math - and I agree. Most parents would fail this program. Our kids use it also. Most parents complain about how they can't help with the homework because it's so different from how we did it.

Here's a link to University Chicago where the program was initiated. Don't know if it can help you with your homework issues, but at least it gives you a taste of the stuff.

Our kids come home with a parents homework set at the beginning of each unit. It has all of the answers for the upcoming worksheets. Doesn't really help though. Usually makes me want to go find a drink to start working on it with the kiddos. I feel like your jumping around everywhere when you do that type of math.

and to top everything off- my daughter has a bully in her class (girl I've let go on play dates at their house)

She (bully) runs this little swarm of girls in the 3rd and 4th grade that arent allowed to talk to certain other girls (one in particular 'cuz she has speech impediments)- I so proud though :D my daughter stood up to her (bully)and said she could swing with whomever she wanted and played with the ignored little girl!!! Now the others (bullys crew) 'have enough on their team' and said she (my daughter) has to folow their rules. UGH!!!

Just what I need - more stupidity from the human race
