Those kinds of things just kill the learning spirit in the child. What happened to outside of the box thinking and praise for creativity and good work done ??? Another reason to stayed involved in the kids education and classroom, to get to know the teachers and the class culture and intangibles taught.

Education has nothing to do with filling a pail, rather it has everything to do with igniting a flame. Heraclitus

In a time when teachers feel unbearable pressure to standardize what we do, it is important to begin with the conviction that we are no longer teaching if what we teach is more important than who we teach or how we teach. Carol Tomlinson

Good learning has to do with atmospheres of hope rather than fear; feelings of adventure rather than sameness; and newness rather than custom. Anonymous

Crummy mandates !!!!

and 5 days of learning to play 4 (most 8 yr old can play, I thouhgt and she thought) squares - my daughter was gonna scream the other day

OK nuther question

Writing topic is on 'My Favorite Day'

Instructions could be a fav birthday, event, the subject is to be on a single day or weekend

Daughter wrote about going to a BDay at an art studio the night of this assignment ( afterschool so it hadnt happened yet)

Wrote it pretty good ad good good marks

Then teacher wrote, 'Good story BUT I am dissapointed and had hoped you had written on a past event since that was assigned!!'

OK
</font>
  • Where in the instructions does it say it has to be in the past?</font>
  • Who care if your disappointed - stick to the grading not personal opion- I couldnt give rats #$^ if my childs teacher was proud of her</font>
  • Constructive critisism give the fact not an opionon ofn your feeling</font>
If I walked in and said "Well I'm dissapoointed, - I'd like her to have a younger teacher not someone who's been teacher for 35 yrs!!! " Thats's not constructive just mean
(now if I mention age and genrational relations, someone of a close generation as a role model- it might be constructive)

Same as the commnet - IMHO on her grading comment

Its not constructive -- its not criicism its mean

That was me previously, don't know how I ended up being "l". Another mark on my day.

Lucella, thanks for the link. I have to check it out later today. PE isn't the only area where the time amounts are sketchy. Music, art, and gifted programs have to be provided in our schools, but there are NO requirements as to how often they need to be provided, so if you provide it for 15 minutes once a month, you'd be covered. I just love the loopholes that get written into these mandates. Makes them almost worthless.

Actually, a lot of states have no mandate. More than I could believe.

Wow, I did a little more reading. If you click on the state profiles section, it brings up a map & you can click on your state to see what the pe requirements are. There are some states that do not mandate pe at all. Some offer exemptions. How terribly sad & backward.
