It was like being an alcoholic in a bar! I even had to stand in line just 5 feet from their table. My son was teasing me, asking how much it was worth for him to stay quiet. I said it's about equal to you getting to eat lunch at Sonic ever again.

Thanks for the encouraging words Library Mom! I have tons to learn about the community before I start too many new things. Really, I'm just now able to drive into town and back to my house without driving right past my street. That's a big accomplishment for me! Even with a Nav system right in my dashboard!!!

CC, my heart be still! You actually were able to walk past the table??? You go girl! What did your family say?

New schools bring new experiences, some for the better and some for the worse. Hang in there, don't overextend yourself. See where the needs are and concentrat on that area just to get your feet wet.

Congratulate me..... I walked right by the PTO table at Orientation last night. I definitely plan on being involved in my son's school (and of course I'll support the PTO) but I want to see all of the ways they need volunteer help before I overextend myself. I haven't even seen the library yet and that's my most favorite spot in any school!

An interesting thing - the PTO President spoke briefly last night and said their one and only big fundraiser is a Dinner Theater in the Spring. ????? I guess that means that all of the funds are raised at the end of one year to be used for the next year? I'll be interested to see how they do things. I suspect I'm going to learn a lot!

I sympathize with you. 2 years ago, another school was built and we were re-districted. A lot of parents requested to go to the new school, even thought they were int eh old school district, because it was just going to be SOOOO much better. A larege chunk of teachers went because the principal was going also. basically it turned into a mass exodus, with those leaving pitying those of use who HAD to stay. Our school is older, not all la-ti-da, but we take care of it and love what we have. Well, of course, the grass isn't always greener--the teachers revolted on the principal after getting there, she was transfered out, the school wasn't ready, but they had no choice but to be there ( sack lunches for the first month, computer room not set up till dec, things like that). Well, ever since they all left, our school scores have doubled and has made AYP, our PTO adn fundraisers have improved, all good things have happened.

Fast forward 2 years, where they are so overcrowded, they have 18 kindergarten classes (compared to our 5 with 14 students in each) and 58 trailors ( the entire 3 & 4th grades in trailors this year, with all classes packed at maximum capacity) teachers leaving left and right, and there tests scores are barely above par. well, a lot of line crossers are being sent back, and of course we got them. it is so hard not to say nanny nanny boo boo. I hate the situation fo the kids, but the parents were just so ugly when they all left. Oh well, it iwll be interestingto see their attitudes and involvement for the school. Even the teachers that left would like to come back. i know redistricting happens, but when it is so ugly when every one leaves, it is hard to have to take them back. They just looked down on us sooooo bad, like we had the bad school and like all the good teachers were leaving, etc. The grass isn't always greener........ AND our CRCT, ITBS and other tests showed that loud and clear!

What a mess.

We have a 200+ waiting list for kindergarten and guess who shows up today for registration....25+ of the ones on the waiting list. One parent was so upset to hear their child was still on the waiting list was escourted out of the building by Dean. The registra is in tears and hiding in the teacher's lounge. Unreal.
Seven years ago we were a school of 400, today I heard the number 1500!

Then there was the parent that has been on a "path" for a few years and today her son didn't get the teacher she wanted because she moved. Didn't seem to care that the teacher's husband got a promotion and transfer....instead our school is so awful it can't keep the one teacher she wanted for her son. UGH>

I did get a pleasant surprise when my VP sat down with me and STAYED!! YYYEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!

Did I mention the rain? Monsoon! Two inches in less than an hour....and we have two more days!

I can identify with your registration woes: I'm not even on the board this year(taking a break) and for some reason I am now in charge of finding volunteers to work and getting the tables set up. Why? Because every single board member but one is going on vacation!(and for the one left, this is her first year, so I couldn't let her go it alone-I'm just not that cruel). I think there was some procrastination and lack of communication that brought this all on, so they hopefully will get their act together for the rest of the year 'cause I'm not bailing them out again.
