page two......

Our teachers do something like that too. They put a wish list for the class on the board, and you put your child's name underneath the item you will provide. usually it is things like outside stuff like sidewalk chalk and balls, sometimes games and books--the little extra's. I don't really mind that.

but for some reason those EXPO markers bother me. I guess because they are so expensive. i think if they said markers for the board and not give the name brand it would make it better. Asking for name brand seems a little greedy to me. If it were me, i think i would take what i got and then maybe exchanged them for the barnd i liked and pay the difference.

On another note, i am a fairly new member around here (about 3 months) and have learned so much from all of you. We had our orientation tuesday night and school started on the 3rd and so far it has been great! It was so nice to feel prepared and organized. If it had not been for the main ones on this post, i would have been up a creek. I never would have thought there was so much involved and so much politics in this. i am very pollyanna. without sherriff shawn, crative dlf, aok's quotes and others, i wouldn't feel nearly as confident. So hats off to you all! you are great!
And crew--i'm just south of atlanta, about on hour form the border, if you are ever over this way, come by. i bet you could really whip our group into shape.

At my son's k-1st school, the list was posted at wal-mart weeks ahead of time. It was the regular stuff. BUT on the first day of school the teachers had a table full of index cards with words like "Sharpie Markers", "Glue Sticks", etc. Parents were asked to pick up one (or two or three) cards and donate supplies to the classroom.

At his 2n-6th school they asked for everything under the sun for supplies but the school paid for the things a school should pay for.

Now, in 7th grade, he only had like six things on his supply list. His registration fees were based on the classes he took and the teacher uses that money to buy the supplies needed for the class. BUT (again) at orientation the principal announced that the school's needs far exceed their budget and asked parents for a direct donation. He said an average of $20 per family would cover the expenses. I can't tell you how many parents DID NOT check that box on their fee list. I'm not judging. I'm new here and don't know how things work. At least the school is honest!

Tthe vis a vis are the ones they like to use on the projectors because they wipe off well.

I had to search for the neon index cards also--finally found them at Target.

The lists get longer every year. I want to know why the school doesn't have soap in the bathrooms? We had to buy soap! i mean geez. It is getting crazy. they can't possible have room to store all this stuff, at least at my school they don't.

it really annoys me when they ask for the EXPO markers that they use on the boards. i know they don't make very much but the PTO gives them a budget every year and this year our governor gave them 100 gift cards. oh well.

Come to find out it's a dry erase marker that is very thin and in bright/neon colors. This teacher is on a roll with her colors. Has anyone heard of neon colored, 5X7 index cards?? I've been to three stores, my friend has been to two different ones and no one knows what we're talking about. We can find the smaller ones, but not that size. And what's up with compasses? I don't think that there are any in this town.

We were asked for ONLY black Expo markers. Last year I had to buy 2 big multipacks, not that I needed them all, but because you couldn't find black on it's own anywhere. I think that rans me around $13 for 2 kids.
What really frustrates me is when you have to buy those expensive composition notebooks to have only a few pages used at the end of the year. What's a matter with putting looseleaf paper in the binder I already have to provide?
One of my kids came back home with half of his supplies by the end of the 2nd day because so much stuff had been brought in. In all honesty, I do spend more money on kleenex, paper towels, sanitizer, ziploc bags, etc than anything else.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. No? I didn't think so.
