I never buy everything right away on those blasted lists! I mean, one year the first grade team asked for 3lbs of candy from each family! Nope. I refused and now my son had $300 worth of dental work done.

Today's registration was expected to be slow for me as high school parents would rather help their kids do communtiy service than to volunteer. Yes, I said it. *sigh* And now the news that has me so mad.....
The secretary had posted Monday as a registration date on the web site. The newsletter that went home said today was the last day. We all get to go back in Monday for one more round. $%^&*())_
I'm not even going to do the PTO table, I think I'll just help the locker/disapline table since they have forms to sign etc adn the longest line.
Shirley!! I need a temple! Yeah an over sugared drink NOW!!!

And aaahhh yes, my secretary said hi and was okay, the son avoided me at all cost!

libmom--we have a third grade teacher who asked for: 3 bottles of hand sanitizer, 2 bottles of hand soap, 3 rolls of paper towels, 2 boxes of baby wipes, 1 box of large zip locks and a box of small zip locks. i spent 10.00 before I even go to the paper and pencils part of the list. And that was 1 child!

I asked why she asked for so much and she said she does it to make up for those who won't bring it in. YUCK!!!

Good news and a rant.....

Good news, orientation went GREAT!! had a lot of interest from new families, renewed interest from older families, great support from the teaches/staff, so it looks (so far) that the year may be off to a wonderful start. We're basically a new board with a lot of new ideas a lot of the staff are new and so is the principal. So it's kinda like starting over. I'm finally getting excited.

See a post under challenges for that story.

Now for the rant..... why oh why do the teachers wait until the Friday before school to start to hand out the supply list???? OK, I had the basics, but I just found out that this one teacher wants the kids to have "vis a vis" markers. What the heck??? I know that "vis a vis" means, but not when it pertains to markers. Luckily a friend found sometoday at the cost $10.00 for a package of 8. I'm a single mom of three with one of them going to college this year. I'm trying to figure out how they can think that with over 40% of our children on free or reduced lunch that families can afford this stuff. Thankfully I'll be OK, but what about the families that won't be?

Ok, off my soapbox now. Going to enjoy a quiet Friday night and get ready over the weekend for school to start on Monday.

Taggart: Break's over, boys. Don't just lay there gettin' a suntan, ain't gonna do you no good anyhow. Now take this shovel and put it to some good use.
[Bart grabs a shovel and advances on Taggart from behind]
Charlie: Don't do it, Bart.
Bart: Uh-uh, baby, I have to.
Taggart: [to Lyle] Now send a wire to the main office and tell them that I said
[Bart whacks him]
Taggart: OW.
Lyle: Send wire, main office, tell them I said ow, gotcha.

Hear that, Shawn? You're the new sheriff in town. Does that job come with a badge? ;)

mykids - it sounds like you and a pretty intense day yesterday. I hope your school knows how lucky they are to have you! If it's any consolation, I think you made the right decision about the secretary's son. After all of your hard work, you don't need a disgruntled teenager messing things up.

A Shirley Temple, huh?!?! That's worth the price of being carded! I'd be more intoxicated by that than an actual drink. Good for you for taking a much needed night off to be with family and friends.

I think Shawn should be Parlimentarian (many PTAs have them),in addition to hospitality host. Thats the person that makes sure the bylaws and other rules are followed. (oh, do people even read their bylaws? good, i can write up anything i want, popsicles served at all meetings!)
