Rockers rule- so of the guys in our bands were as freaky looking but some of the coolest nicest people I've ever know.

Wonder if Tommy's touring with the Crue and Aerosmith with his new band

It's sad isn't it? Maybe we need a reality show where people go through a week doing nice things for others and then the person who gets voted as "best do-gooder" gets money donated to their favorite charity.

You know we did watch one reality show this summer that didn't have any of that negativity and back stabbing. It was the rock star show with Tommy Lee where they were looking for a lead singer for Supernova. The contestants all cheered for each other, played backup for each other and all cried and hugged when someone got eliminated. Even my kids noticed how nice they all were to each other. They were kind of a freaky looking bunch, but good people!

I'd call that the reality-show phenomenon. It's the same way adults act on these so called reality shows. They're a team during competitions but once it's time to get voted off, fired, auf'd, whatever the arrows fly and back-biting begins. This is what these kids see - to make it in the adult world you have to swear allegiance to your 'best' friends but then strike at just the right moment and climb over them to the top. But, hey, it's a million dollars, a perfect job, celebrity status, etc. so it's worth it, right?!?!

My daughter turned 12 this summer and thankfully is a very modest young lady. She will not wear form fitting tops or anything that shows too much skin. This does make it difficult to shop though because that seems to be all that's available. I look at some of the girls her age and the way they act and kids are trying to act grown up waaaay too early in my opinion.

Did any of you see the Primetime(I think that was what I was watching)report a week ago about middle school girls and how mean they are. It's focus was on how girls are using today's technology, i.e. e-mail, websites, text messaging and camera phones to humiliate and insult others. They took a group of very intelligent girls from all over the US, put them together for a weekend to get to know each other, then broke them up in groups, gave them cell phones and a computer, showed them a group of older kids in another room and told them these were the cool kids and they wanted to try to get in with this group. In just a few minutes they were using language that was unbelieveable, slinging insults, slandering other girls and generally just acting like total monsters. It was really scary.

I think 9 must be a very hard age for girls. Boys seem to hit that tough spot later, around 11. I don't have a girl, but I am one ;) and I remember what an awkward year that was for me. As I work in the schools I see so many girls turn nasty toward each other at that age. Their whole focus seems to be on "who can we make cry today?" And by the age of 11 or 12 many of them look more like a woman than actual, full grown women do!!!! I can't believe some of the 7th & 8th grade girls that get out of the cars at dropoff time. It's a wonder 7th & 8th grade boys can get any school work done at all.
