Sorry to hear about the low sales-we're in the middle of ours now. I'm hoping for the best, but expecting the worst. I'll know next week how we did.

CC, my little guy is home today too. Not the flu, but some major conjestion. No fever, but his body is soooo hot & he is lathargic- hope your boy is feeling better & your not having to clean up too much grossness.

We have elections tomorrow night, along w/budget. There are 4 board positions & most likely only 4 of us that will be there-we drew straws. Guess which one I got...

Forgot to tell ya'll about our awesome Saturday. There is this farm about 30min. from our house-pick your own apples & pumpkins, petting zoo, hayrides, ice cream, cider, honey, corn maze- it was a blast. My sil & I took the 4 kids (2,4,5,&8) We were in that dang maze for over an hour!! If you get to Maine in the fall (I know, how&when?!) you really have to check this place out.

Yeah, especially Fall Fundraisers. Folks are already thinking about high heating bills, holidays, etc. Our Fall fundraiser last year was a lot lower than we hoped for. Thanks to a few parents who could financially make a difference we met our goal to fund the year's projects. Across the board, though, total participation was lower as well as individual donation amounts.

Flu season is finally here in my house. I thought my son was just reacting to new pollens but, nope, not allergies. Poor guy had a rough night last night but he's sleeping soundly now. I'm keeping him home so he has a full day to let his body recover.

scottmom - sorry to hear about the low sales. We are having the same problem in our school - our intake this year is about 1/2 of what it was last year. We think that it's partly due to the rising cost of heating fuel, gas and electric bills -when I added all the increases up it averaged about $175 a month. We live in a very low income area so I'm sure that these increases took quite a bite out of budgets.

We have over 30 schools in our district and at least 6 correctional facilities in our city. (That's what you get for living in a capital city.) I don't know if the super is informed but I know parents aren't. Not that the school is bad or anything has ever happened there or to one of the students, it's just that I know a lot of parents aren't as cautious as I am.

On another note, I'm finishing up our fall catalog sale and not totally excited about the results. Sadly, I figured out teachers were not sending reminder notes out at appropriate times or at all (mainly because this happened with my kids). I wonder how I'm suposed to make a fundraiser successful to raise money for discretionaly funds and field trips-that support them-without their support. Our rep is working with me to extend our turn in but I'm not sure how well this will work. The rep and I worked so hard to get the kids excited, try to give the teachers easy ways to remind the kids, but I'm not sure any of this has helped. To top it off, I've come down with a really nasty cold and am totally miserable. Thanks for letting me share!

scottmom, most (if not all) states inform superintendents of registered sex offenders moving into the area, or current residents getting onto the list.
i guess its a budget matter about the security end of things at the school perimeter if they arent doing anything if there is a high population lke that nearby. there are some principals who feel they need to wear a flack jacket just getting to their car if they stay at school til after dark, so those kinds of security issues dont just touch the kids!!

More local businesses in our area have "family" restrooms. I think they figured it's usually just one parent lugging 3 or more kids around and it's just silly. I have all boys and my 10 year old hates being drug into the women's restroom because he is not allowed out of my sight.
Our state has an online sex offender registry and I check it at least once a month. We live in a lower income area, so it attracts them like a magnet. To be honest with you, I think our distract should have provided our school with a perimeter monitoring unit knowing the situation. Someone tried picking up a girl at the middle school bus stop just a block down from the school last year and someone was shot in a house across the street fromt he school 3 years ago. That makes our neighboorhood sound horrible, but I think if teachers and parents could feel safer it wouldn't be so hard to get people to be a part of the school.
