My oldest gets croup and pneumonia EVERY year. My life line for the "inbetween" meds - Metholliptum (sp?) for kids. It's just chest rub - but it's made a difference in our house. We've also had great success with the Triaminic chest patches for coughs -just be careful - if you kids have sensitive skin, don't put the patch on their skin. Attach it to their shirt that is right up against their skin. My daughter ended up have her skin slightly "torn" by the adhesive, but the shirt method works just as well.

Actually, that is a big help. Thanks so much. I've been listening to him cough all day and am starting to think it is not so much croup. Sorry, this is kinda gross, but it seems like a "wet" cough, rather than the dry, barking croupy one. I have a girlfriend that is a FNP. I may call her for her .02, or the pharmacy. Both kids have this cough & we can't kick it. I had thought croup because the dimatap was not working. Guess we'll be off to the dr.'s office on Tuesday.
I am an experienced croup mom. Have one child with it right now. We don't use breathing treatments, our doctor always had us put him by the window air conditioner and bundle him up. Can you call your doctor and ask for a refill or call the pharmacy to check? I used to work in a clinic and I know lots of meds are still useable after their expiration date but some of them are either weakened or can make you sick. I'm sorry, that's probably not much help.

My son has a pretty bad, suspiciously croupy sounding cough. I have the nebulizer, but my albuterol exp. in March Don't think it warrants a ER visit, but since it is Sunday, cannot get a new scrip for the alb. Can I still use it? I am an expiration date nut, but I don't think is has gone bad, per se, just maybe not as effective?
