page two......

I was in a teaching hospital for 21 days with my first blood clot. The weird, rare blood disorder attracted a lot of interest. Doctors and students came in around the clock to yank my covers up and look at my legs. That's a ton of fun. I was so embarrassed but they couldn't give me a razor so I asked my husband to bring in his electric shaver. He thought I was crazy but he did it anyway because he's smart enough not to argue with me when I'm being unrealistic.

Since you are in such a precarious position, D, I will share with you what I learned when I had my carpel tunnel surgery a few months back.
1. Even when a mother is not supposed to use her hand and it is in a million bandages, she still manages to do the laundry, cook dinner, and change diapers.
2. There is a reason why women shave their legs while men do not. (Though my husband can paint my nails almost as good as me!)
3. If you need to write bad enough, you learn to use your other hand.
4. Which means my husband no longer had the worst handwritting in the house!
5. Pain medicine makes you not care what the kids or dog just got into, it also makes you gain weight like a pregnant woman.
6. If you didn't already have carpel tunnel in your other hand, you will have it by the time you can use the hand that was just fixed!

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

You know since my husband and I now have a mandatory "two man shower rule" in effect it struck me as so funny that when he helped me the other day he said "Aren't you going to shave your legs?....I mean I'm in a neck brace, a hand brace, dizzy most of the time and a broken rib and he's worried that I didn't shave my legs HA....
