OK- I'm off to bed. Busy day of cleaning and finally getting through the last of the boxes. My mother-in-law (whom I love dearly) is coming to visit us friday and will see the house for the first time. I can't wait to see her! She's so great at putting everything into perspective. I don't know what I'd do without her.

Good night!

That sounds like my last school! My first year there was also the principal's first year. Luckily I was just chairing committees and not yet an officer there. He was so worried about being out of the loop or dropping the ball on something that everything, not matter how minor, was run by him. The 2nd year (when I was secretary) he loosened up and relaxed a bit and by the 3rd year (when I became president) he had finally learned just how much he could trust the PTO parents and gave us a lot more breathing room. It was tough at first to take all of those extra steps but was great once we got used to each other. Hang in there!

CC, you crack me up. I had a minor blowout Friday when I realized our fundraiser wasn't finishing up well and noticed one of my kids came home with his turn in reminder (for Thursday) on Friday when it should have gone out on Tuesday and the other child didn't bring home a note at all or the volunteer for the carnival form that should have gone out no later than Monday. I take fundraisers personally and it bugs me to find out that teachers want me to find money for discretionary funds but can't send home notes (no they won't let me put them in backpacks or I would). I even vented a bit this morning with one of the teachers and she said I see your point and jumped on changing her send home system. My husband just sent the kids outside and let me go between sobbing in his shirt for letting our fundraiser fail and yell at him about how I want a job where I get free money without having to do anything to get it. He wanted me to step down at the end of my 1st year but we're lucky if we have 4 parents at a meeting and they are all terrified of someone other than me being in charge. I started the first meeting this year telling them to get it all out of me this year because this was the last.
My favorite PTO pants are the velour yoga kind, black because it goes with anything.
Have any of you ever felt so happy to have a new pricipal only to find out you wind up running every little thing by them just to make sure you don't step on any toes and are completely worn out when you were once so excited?

And thanks, ScottMom, for the info about zyrtec. I'm so anti-medicine for myself that I hate to even take tylenol for a headache. But my son has been so miserable for the past few days and he needs relief.

I like the idea about the regional honey - never would've thought of that - but it makes sense!

Thanks ScottMom - that was just the sympathy I was looking for. You should have seen the look of quiet resignation on my husband's face. He got home from work about 10 minutes after I got home. I snapped at him twice for two really stupid things and he said, "Man, what is wrong?!?!" I unloaded it all on him. He sat so quietly, listened intently, didn't interrupt even once. When I was done he said, "Well, I guess you know what you need to do." That's as close to a blessing as I've ever heard. Translation - Damn, baby, you look hot in those PTO pants. Have you lost weight? (OK, I made up that last part... ;) )
But I told you he was a smart man!

Talking plants, huh? I'd buy those! I know where we can get some great roses.....

Also, I give Zyrtec or something similar year round-or during specific times of year once you get used to what the area does to you. Zyrtec at bedtime or Claritin with breakfast. I have one child who takes something year round, one who takes something late March to early June and late August to early November, and one who doesn't take anything at all. I take a pill and a nasal inhaler all year and still have to take an occasional sudafed to try to stay normal. When I'm pregnant, I take 2 tbsps of honey/day from the region. It's not perfect but appearantly the bees process the same pollens and it helps. Hope that's not too much to take in.
