page two......

Oy--I just did something like I HATE. I fussed about the support we received from the folks organizing the soccer league here. The woman is a fabulous lady but I didn't get notified I had a "team" to coach until about a week ago. I called and she didn't return the call until last night when I'd had 4 emails from frustrated parents because they didn't know what was going on. So at the parking lot today I got out and walked to another car saying "so and so FINALLY returned my call" and of course she was right there. I immediately apologized and said that I was overreacting and then she explained that the U8 folks had "quit" and not told anyone so she'd stepped in and picked up an addition 67 teams to try to organize and get going in about 2 weeks. That's in addition to the 52 she had with the U6. Plus this is a wonderful woman who's been volunteering her time since 01 doing this and of course she has a family as well and other things in her life. Oy--you know even those of us on the other end of these things can be idiots sometimes in not appreciating what wonderful volunteers are doing every day. I mean I was worried about 6 year olds for an hour. Now of course practice went great and she met us there with our shirts (which she DIDN'T have to do) but I feel like a big ole heel and hope that she realized I'm the one with the problem not her.
You know these "kids sports" are costing close to 100 dollars a pop now to be a part of and so parents expectations raise, but man we all just need to cool our jets and say 'thank you' before we open our big mouths in complaint.
I'm going to beat myself with a feather for a while and hope that my follow up call telling her she was a hero helped...but you know how it is when someone overhears something you were saying through your fanny instead of your brain.

ps--I will never, never, never do 50 minutes on the eliptical and then 20 minutes of weights and crunches again on the same day I have to help coach a 6 year old soccer team. Stupid thing number 2 for today!!!!

See, Shawn! That's why we're friends. Pumpkin pie w/whipped cream is the perfect breakfast.

Sunny and warm here today too but that's all about to change. We're supposed to get rain later in the week. I finally got the yard work done, even mowing, so that's a relief.

Pie for breakfast- the Italian kind is the best (I do have family from the East Coast and Chicago- and lived 3+ hrs from Chitown)

I prefer pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream for breakfst (they always buy 3 or 7 for hiolidays- 'cuz I'd eat 2 or 3 by my lonesome)

Margarita's to make the 'bitter pill' go down- ;) --

What day is your reading nite??? LA to Hesperia to Vegas.... Hmmmmmmm

Its sunny and 80 here with intermitant (sp?) and FLURRIES up where my wife works

I'm taking the year off..... :D Gosh, my 'year off' is almost over. If the website is any indication, shortie's new school has a pretty active PTO so I'm looking forward to that.

Sorry about the volunteer thing, cottonwood. Those are the kind of people who meant 'no' from the beginning but didn't want to say it so they led you on and then created a reason not to be there.

Know what else stinks? Someone asking you to get something, then you get it and when you call to ask when/where to drop it off, they say, "Oh, did you pick that up? I didn't know so I asked Sally and she got it." Um, you asked. I said yes. Where's the confusion? I still turned in my receipt for reimbursement and let her figure out what to do with 10 extra cases of soda.

Jumbo margarita's?!?!?!?! Count me in! Frozen, lots of salt. Thanks! I'll save the pie for tomorrow's breakfast. What? None of you eat pie for breakfast? You should.....

Sorry cottonwood, I already have a volunteer committment or I'd be there.

The only thing more annoying than someone who backs out at the last minute is someone who says they'll handle getting something, then tells you at the last minute that they didn't. "Oh, that's okay, we didn't need the pasta for our spaghetti supper anyway!" (That's a fictitious example in case someone's lurking.)

Let me serve you up a jumbo margarita and a BIG piece of chocolate cream pie.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

Whew! It's windy today! Well, it's usually windy here in the desert this time of year, but this is something else... kids are all inside today due to inclement weather. To make it worse, the wind is coming off the nearby snow-covered mountains, putting an extra chill in the air... this a week after near 90 degree temps.
Just had our fundraiser kick-off assembly. Now I can focus all attention onto our first Family Reading Night set for Friday. I'm starting to run into the last second excuses for scheduled volunteers/teachers... "Oh, I planned a last second trip to Vegas, would it be okay if i miss family reading night?"--- Hey, go on your trip, no biggie... we end at 8:00 and you could be pulling slot machines by 11:00, but if you've gotta go, you've gotta go... it's only been scheduled for 3 months now, i should've gave you more notice.. my bad. I'm sure the line is 8 people deep to volunteer...

(can't tell that i'm bitter, can you?) I'm just done with people that back out on you at the last minute. Either do it, or don't.. but don't lead me on. It's not like i don't have any thing else on my palatte.
Anybody free friday night? =)
