Cookie Dough ????

We use Little Caesars Pizza & cookie dough. Every year the parents request we do this.

It's up to each family whether or not they participate. This is the only "food" fundraiser we ever do!

Since the spring our diet has excluded dyes, preservatives, art. colors and flavors.

momof3 - not to hijack this thread, but what on earth does your family eat? I didn't know there were any foods left - vegetables included - when you subtract those items!

Mistie - our school does a cookie dough fund raiser (sorry, I don't know the brand) and it works out very well each year. My family (led determinedly by my husband) focuses on healthy eating. But we buy 2 or 3 tubs each year and use the cookies for the occasional treat. I have to agree that teaching children to make healthy choices and preaching moderation is our path, not exclusion of all things thought to be unhealthy.

I understand what alot of you are saying. Schools need the money. However, you have to decide what is best for your family and what fundraisers you can support. I have 3 very active boys. Since the spring our diet has excluded dyes, preservatives, art. colors and flavors. Believe it or not, but my boys behavior has calmed down quite a bit. They are better able to control themselves and do the things that they need to do. Because of this, our family does not support fundraisers with cookies and candy. There is enough junk in the stores as well as anywhere else you go.

I've been on a mission to find a fundraiser that makes good money and my family can support. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

I agree with backhoed and pals on this. I also want to add that any reputable vendor will give you a list of the ingredients. They are printed right on our dough forms and the tubs as well. I also think that you are wrong to put a once a year fundraising effort into such harsh terms:

If raising funds is more important to you than the health of your children and community, cookie dough is the way to go!

You could always just make an equivilant donation to your parent group (my child 'sells' about $500 worth of dough to neighbors, family and friends, annually) and just not order any rather than bash the group for using a proven money-maker. Besides, one tub of cookie dough is not the reason children get fat. It is years of bad eating habits. How do you know that it is not just a nice treat in most homes? Or a convenience at the holidays for an overstressed homemaker? It's not like the parents are handing the kids the tub and saying "Here's dinner"... It's a nice treat and it makes the school money. Leave it at that.

Have to agree with backhoed...as much as i truly hate doing the two fundraisers we do that involve candy it is what makes the big bucks. It has nothing to do with us not caring about the kids, heck that is what the money is for. A pto selling something like cookie dough once a year is not what makes these kids obese. We are a business that needs to make money, all of our money goes to free family nights (about seven ). So is making the money to increase family involvement wrong? Think about school lunches, classrooms parties, incentives, even the fast pace of life and how many families ever sit down for a dinner together each night. I know families that are always on the run and eat drive thru food in their car...that is where the problem lies not one cookie dough sale a year.Just my thoughts....

Farmer Mom,

I have been reading through all the posts and see that you are "intensly" into the food issues.(somehow I think your screen name gives it away a bit) And you know what, that is ok. I think, though, you need to lighten up on "food" fundraisers. Yes, maybe and most certainly all cookies are fattening but do you really think you will do ok with a vegtable fundraiser?

Heck we do cookie dough and PIZZA?!?
