room "parents"

We have Room Parent sign up sheets at Open House. Parents can sign up to be Head Room Parent or for areas like treats for parties, helping with yearbook pages, workign spring carnival, etc. We're adding some things to the list for next year in areas where we were weak on help. We also have a person(s) who are Room Parent Coordinators. They get the program set up and then the room parents are provided with class list and are contacted when help is needed for various events. It works pretty well.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

We tried something new this year that everyone likes. We had a committee that prepared everything except games for the entire school. We picket age appropriate crafts. We purchased the snack and even made treat bags that consisted of things other than candy. We had a head room parent "contact" that we kept updated on what the craft would be and got a sample to them prior to the party. All they had to do was pick up the snack, drink, craft, and treat bags and take them to the classroom. One of our goals was to make sure that everyone got the same. We had parents in some classed that made elaborate treat bags/containers for their kids and other classes who may not have parents that are very active got very little. I have two children and there was never any jealousy about one got that the other didn't. We will be doing this again next year. I am hoping that this method will take the pressure of of someone stepping up to be head room parent.

Copies sent. I'm also going to send this to the PTO resource sharing website so everyone who wants to can look at it.

Thanks so much for the info. We do set up at orientation so that will be a great place to start signing people up.
I would love to have a copy of the handbook! I think people are more willing to volunteer when they know as much as possible up front about what their responsibilities will be. You can email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
