I am hesitant to even tell you all this, as it may not come true, but I got a call this week from a major news source who is doing a segment on corporal punishment in schools. I may be interviewed for the story. Cross your fingers!

I want to share my advocacy with those who are interested, to let you know the types of injuries that we are seeing with corporal punishment in the schools.
Go to nospank.net/bancp-nc.htm
Make sure that if you click on the section to view the injured children that you do not have your children present. Do not look at these photos if you are going to be offended by viewing bruised buttocks. The word needs to get out that not only are children being hit, they are being injured, and when injuries occur, the school boards and state boards of education are doing NOTHING to stop or prevent future injuries. It is out and out child abuse.

Thanks for all of the support and Oprah contacts. Who knows, we may break the topic wide open, which is what is needed.

This is all very sad!! If my child came home looking like that, I do believe that teacher or principal would be going home that day looking like that also...

Can't these parents press charges?

My chief complaint about PTA/PTO and site based committees is this....how is the parent population represented if we can't debate issues, and take action on such issues as a group? It seems here in the south that we are expected to comply with administrators, without question.
Does anyone else feel stiffled in their area?

The funny answer to this question is a PTO group of parents can meet anywere to discuss anythign but seem to talk alot more at places were coffee is served! Or kitchen tables work well too. I've done reserch on this matter :D .

I was wondering, has anyone tried to just take the paddles away? I mean, walk in the room and ask for the teacher's, principal's, dean's etc paddle.

When I was in the sixth grade a classmate was slapped across the face. We were serving recess detention (well, that's what it's called now) and my classmate was trying to hand in his homework and the teacher didn't like the way he answered a question. boom. I will never forget it. Years later a daycare provider used duck tape on my (then) 3 year old daughter's mouth. She was too loud with the other four children while she was on the phone long distance....again. She is now 15 and it is the one thing that will bring this 5'8" young lady to her very strong knees.

What happened to the Golden Rule and teaching children to respect me as I respect you?

a part of me wishes I could have stood up to that teacher that day and slapped her back. Fear is not an easy feeling to grow-up with.
