The media has been valuable. This topic was one of the top ten news stories for 2005 in both local papers here.
For those interested, google corporal punishment, NC, Union County, Peggy Dean, any combo, and you can see some of what I am doing.
Thanks for the support and interest. Part of my purpose in coming to this forum is to share with the brightest and most involved parents in the nation, and enlighten them. That would be you all, the PTO leaders. I was a VP on the PTO board in another state, and we had an awesome community. I know how valuable it can be when those in charge are working for the good of the community.
Many people are simply unaware that this still exists in 2006.

Thanks, I have sent photos of injured children to Dr. Phil. I have emailed Oprah four times, with links to photos of injured children. No response.
Oprah does not accept packets, or I would have mailed her photos. I have posted this topic on both web forums to generate conversation.
May we post links to web pages here? If so, I would love to share some of what I am trying to do here in North Carolina. Who would know? I don't wish to spam this site, but if anyone is interested, I do want to share. I think all parents have the right to know which states and schools are hitting. I have also talked to Greatschools.net and they have interest in this topic, as one of the catagories that schools are ranked in is "safety and discipline". They would not have to take a position statement, but it would be valuable for parents to know which states and schools allow this.

When my oldest son was in elementary school, the old principal would call my elderly father-in-law who could not hear on the phone and ask permission to spank my son. My father-in-law who didn't know what he was authorizing, would just say ok to get the principal off the phone (he couldn't stand the principal). After spanking my son the principal would then call me at work and inform me that he had spanked him. I finally got sick of this and told him that if he ever spanked my son again, I was going to press charges on him. He never spanked my son again.
