I tried a new recipe for yams and again, still nothing that I'd eat outside of the obligatory holiday fare. Why yams anyway? When did these orange potato things become a holiday food?
I believe that this must have happened during some sort of famine or something and they had no choice and like a bad fruitcake, never went away.
Bertha...I clean and prep fresh sweet potatoes like you would a potato to bake it then I put them in the microwave (very radical for me!) and bake them (with skins on too!) for about 10 minutes. With a towel I rub off the skins, mash'em with butter and brown sugar (no marshmallows) and sometimes I put them back in the oven to hold till everything else is ready or they are ready to serve! Try it this summer with pork! VERY good! I have found to bake them in the oven like potaoes takes forever....I can get away with it if I bake 'em while baking the turkey but during the summer...nuke 'em!

Here's what I've decided to do for short term. I created a new forum category called "social". By the time you read this post, page two will already have been moved to "social".
Let's use this category for all non-parent-group-related topics. I'll likely close or delete this actual "page two" thread sometime this week, but the new category should leave plenty of space for touching base with cyber friends and letting off steam and being a bit nutty. Rather than one long hundreds-of-posts thread, we should look more toward various threads in the socail category. I'll probably cull threads in the social category if/when they go stale (don't do that very much in main categories, as most of the main threads have value in the archives).
Another request: please no "see you in social" or "see you in page two" type references in the main threads. The cross-referencing and "insider" nature of those comments is confusing to new users. In those threads (I know many of our regulars in social are also our most helpful posters in main threads), let's keep to topics at hand and helping folks out with specific issues.
Those who want to find the social category or even jump into it will do so on their own....
I really appreciate what you bring to the forum and to parent group leaders across the country. It's always a balancing act between letting things fly any way they might go and trying to keep the forum moving in most helpful direction for all.
