Everyone sounds like thay are having a great day. My husband came home from work this morning at 6:30 with flowers and chocolate. Candy for breakfast is always a good thing.

Shawn-a King Cake is like a giant cinnamon roll ring. They are made between Epiphany and ending on Shrove Tuesday where people are known to have Cake parties every week to celebrate Christ's Divinity to Man Kind. A baby Jesus is placed in the cake to represent the discovery of Jesus by the Magi and whoever gets the baby is supposed to have wealth and prosperity for the year, they are also supposed to make the next cake and host the next party. It is one of those traditions that started out as something else and evolved into a Christian celebration, and now, most people either don't do it or don't know the significance. My great-grandfather was Creole, so the tradition has been in my family for longer than anyone can remember. The very sad thing is I'm the only person willing to "mess with" making the cakes in my family, but it's something cool that I've contributed to my husband's family.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

d, that sounds like a really nice morning-starts everyone's day off knowing they are loved. Can't beat that!

Just had a nice lunch with hubby. We don't do that enough. I'm making one of my family's favorite meals for supper-chicken and noodles over mashed potatoes. Will make the noodles heart shaped. Can you say carb-loading?

Hey all-we're just south of DC and while the government closed down (that's a realitive concept) at 2 yesterday and today there was liberal leave and a 2 hour delay...we aren't snowed under. Still had to shovel the 350 foot driveway though...THAT was a pain...and of course now it is all melting anyway (that's why no one else was out shovelling). Hubby was home but has a stress fracture we think so he couldn't help. It's all supposed to freeze over again tonight. Boys made us a lovely card when we got up this morning...lots of nice things inside..and I gave them their cards. We all read and shared them at the table (dad too) and despite my fears they would miss chocolate they decided this was the best Valentine's Day ever. Of course I boo hoo'd through the whole thing...you know I miss the itty bitty stage but I have to say that having 4 little minds in my life and sharing things with them is incredibly fun. So they get to enjoy V-day again this week when they get back to school...having 2 days in the same week to celebrate the love--well that's a good week in my book.

Enjoy!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! My kids were happy as clams with the cards and boxes of chocolates I gave them this morning. My son had his valentines all packed along with the drinks for the party. My daughter will hopefully be bringing home some carnations from her school day. The student council does a fundraiser where two weeks before Valentine's students can order carnations to have delivered on Valentine's day. They have colors for a friend, someone you love, and secret admirer. My daughter and her friends get flowers for each other, but I feel so bad for kids who don't get anything. Then there are the kids who give flowers to people who don't return those feelings. I really don't like this fundraiser-middle school is hard enough without putting the relationship stuff out there for all to see.

On a lighter side, I can't wait to see my hubby if daughter brings home anything other than friend flowers!

Shawn, I think you missed your calling as a civil rights attorney. When this board is filled with people who lament about lack of volunteers and participation at events, it's unbelievable that there are groups who actually do things that limit the ability to participate.

Definition of 'Trouble Maker' (or what it should be when it pertains to school, education, etc. in IMHO) = Someone who cares
Live by the sword - die by the sword I always say!

Have a great Valentine's Day everyone!
