d, did you see the 60 Minutes segment last night on the units from Iowa? Very poignant story as they followed them from the notification of deployment through homecomings and losses.

d, as ever you know just what to say. That was a beautiful Memorial Day sentiment. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend, had fun, spent time with family.

It's going to be hot, hot, hot in Alabama today. We drove home from Atlanta yesterday and saw fire fighters battling yet another fire in Talladega National Forest just outside of Oxford, AL. This one was close to the highway and the east bound lanes were all but shut down. Luckily we were heading west. If the smoke had been any worse, I imagine the entire highway would've been closed. It's been a rough season. I hope the rain comes soon.

MMMM crispy chicken....owwwww crispy people...sounds like the classic weekend. Children swam at a neighbors pool from 1-10 yesterday. One is still asleep...:).
Happy Memorial Day--I am always struck on this day not just by the sacrifices of our wonderful service members but by their families. I have only recently understood the impact of reservists deployment. In most cases it is women who are pushed into a world they have no connection with at all. At least on active duty you are familiar with the medical systems etc...but I've watched one friend struggle with the basics of military life. I've seen her children go through the issues associated with a dad away and have really come to appreciate what it is these folks go through in support of our nation's military mission.
Anyway--I hope the day is not lost on anyone. And I hope it is a wonderful day to enjoy all the best that America has to offer...!

Happy Memorial Day

What a weekend so far! We spent 95% of the day outside yesterday - I am burnt to a crisp to prove it. No matter how much sunscreen one can slather on it's never enough. On the bright side I may be able to cancel that highlight appointment coming up.
Planning on firing up the BBQ for monster hanburgers this afternoon and follow with an afternoon showing of Shrek the 3rd.
Does anyone still wash their cars by hand just for the fun of it? Typically we run through the car wash but I was thinking of getting out the buckets, sponges and soap for a fun family washing episode. I am not sure how clean the car will actually get but I am all for some family time with water.
Have a great weekend everyone!

CC of course good luck to both of you..as I understand things however, if you weren't ready you'd never be invited to test...not that it isn't still a very harrowing thing..but rest assured that as always...people know what they're voting for..and in your case I suspect it is the best!!!!

Shorty and I are off to the big city of Birmingham for katate testing tonight. He's testing for green, I'm testing for yellow. We're both a little nervous. Wish us luck....
