Trunk or Treat ideas?

I'm thinking about planning a turnk or treak for the first time this year. Since I'm getting started late, I was thinking of just doing the trunk or treat, car decorating, and possibly free cider and donuts.

Our parking lot would be fairly easy to block off one entrance to direct traffic. I would estimate that for the first year we might have about 50 participating cars? Any ideas on how many volunteers we would need?

Also do you let people "treat" who haven't "trunked"?

Thanks!

Hello, I do not think it is too late. We have one Family Fun event each month. I am just now getting the trick or trunk together. It can be as simple as you want. We will have a decorated car contest, pumpkin contest, our sheriffs dept. is sending an officer to hand out safety tips and stickers. We are also do hotdogs, chips and soda for $1.00. I think food will help if parents know they won't have to worry about feeding the kids and getting them ready after a days work. Good Luck1

Hello, I am new here. Just joined the pto at my childrens school. I was very disappointed in the size of the Pto. I should have joined sooner! Anyhow, need to start an event that will get the parents and children involved. HOpefully will turn out well and become a yearly event as well. I love the sound of trunk or treat. Any Ideas on where i should start to get this going? If I have to I will plan it for next year since it is already almost oct. or is it feasible to get it done for this year? HELP!!

I started one in my town 5 years ago in the high school parking lot... we call it the trick or treat tailgate. It has grown from 30 cars to 200-300! We have a car decorating contest with top 3 prizes... the entrance fee is $5 per car load and candy to give out. As cars drive in we give 3 tickets for voting- their ticket goes to their favorite decorated vehicle... at the end of trick or treating tickets are tallied to announce top 3. Suggestions: As cars drive in tell them NO TRICK OR TREATING UNTIL IT IS ANNOUNCED TO DO SO...start at 6pm PROMPT for parking... STOP PARKING AT 6:30 PROMPT.... that way there are not kids trick or treating while cars are parking. I have 2 local officers scheduled for the event. I use their car speaker. Also, we have a local fire engine- nice for kids to- they give out stickers.
It's been a nice event- I'm proud I started it and watched it grow- our PTO benefits financially as well.
HAVE FUN!
