HI michmom...I'm in Michigan too. I'm up near Traverse City.
We also use Krispy Kremes but we sell them also. We send home a flier saying that it's DWD time again and since we're going to Grand Rapids to pick up all those donuts, if you want to order some, we'll get them for you also. We always sell a few hundred dozen ahead of time and then order up. I think we did 400 dz this past January. We set up in the lobby as parents are bringing their kids to school and we sell the heck out of them. Even with using them for DWD and giving dozens to staff in their lounges, we still make a thousand bucks.
We just had our second (and probably annual) Donuts w/Dad. We had close to 300 RSVP. We went through 58 dz donuts. Krispy Kreme gives an awesome deal, $2.50 dz. We had maybe 4 dozen left and we sold those at cost.
Many of the dads thanked us when they left. They really enjoyed it. It took minimal volunteer help and prep.
We do Donuts with Dad on Valentine's Day. Dads and daughters have donuts together first thing of the school day. We also sell flowers and candy gift sacks.
We are doing our second donuts with dad tomorrow. RSVP's were up this year, a total of 260! For a small K-5 300 student school that is pretty good. Our principal is just blown away!
