I would love to see your ideas. Getting our moms to volunteer as room mom is like pulling teeth...it seems like every year they aren't chose until middle October. We could use any info that you could send!

Hi, This past year our PTO put together a Room Parent Committee. Myself and a bunch of hard working ladies put together forms that the room parents could alter and use to send home to parents in the classrooms. We also put together a games packet for each Holiday and attached a sheet that told the user wich grade the games were best suited for. Most of the Information that we used I found on line using a search engine and checking out other PTO's websites.

If anyone is interested I would be glad to share the info. You'will have to tweak it for your school

We invite parents at the beginning of the year to become a Home Room Parent. Notices are sent home and posted in the parent bulletin (newsletter). We set up a Home Room Parents Tea one evening in late September so all interested parents can network and brainstorm ideas for room parties. Our Vice-President is responsible for hosting the tea, giving the simple rules to follow (more like guidelines), and creating the homeroom parent booklet that has contact information for each room. These booklets are provided to every homeroom parent, teacher, the principal, and secretary. We always get a great turnout. Our only stipulation of being a homeroom parent is that they be a member of our PTA, which helps our membership!

Our teachers recruit their own room parents, but we provide them with a standard "job description," if this helps.

What is a Room Representative?

Room Representatives are selected by individual classroom teachers; each class is required to have one Room Representative. A Room Representative is someone who volunteers his or her time to help the teacher in the classroom by:

a) Assisting in the arrangement of up to two class parties a year (includes setting up the parties, providing directions to students, and cleaning up after the party ends), and

b) Coordinating the efforts of other parent volunteers.

Other duties may be required at the discretion of the classroom teacher. Establishing a good working relationship between the teacher and Room Representative requires communication. The Teacher will describe expectations of the Room Representatives and describe his or her objectives so that the teacher and the Room Representative can determine how they will collaborate throughout the school year. A Room Representative's relationship with the classroom students is based on the Room Representative's individual personality and the teacher's established routine. The teacher will decide upon how much direct contact and involvement with the students is appropriate.

Designating assistants to the Room Representative helps ensures that someone will be available for every activity or event, and may be done at the discretion of the teacher. However, only one Room Representative name should be submitted as a contact for the PTA’s Room Parent Coordinator. The PTA’s Room Parent Coordinator serves as a resource to the Room Representatives and works with the Room Representatives to recruit volunteers for school events.
