Hi Julie,
I just read your post again and sorry I didn't answer you in the last post.. (4 year old hanging off my arm!) We are calling it a Tag Sale so anything can be sold...old, new, crafts, Avon, etc. Were hoping to advertise and get family and friends of the school to buy a spot. We have lots of room and hope to sell them all!

Thanks! These are wonderful ideas..I guess you could call it a garage sale too! We also are thinking to ask each person that buys a space to donate an item to our white elephant table...or maybe baked goods? Thanks again for all in input Julie and JHB!!

Isn't a tag sale just a yard sale/garage sale? Anyway, we had one yesterday. Our Community Relations Committee engineered it as a community relations event. It was a lot of fun. I believe that Chairperson reads this Forum, so she may chime in with details. But for some basics,

They used the larger of our two parking lots and literally sold parking spaces. So a person could estimate how much space they needed and buy the appropriate number of spots. The sale was from 8-1 on Saturday, and there was a Salvation Army truck parked in the lot to take away anything people didn't want to haul back. The CR committee sold the spots, arranged the Salvation army truck, sold donuts/coffee/hot chocolate, arranged for the Girl Scouts to have a bake sale and the Boy Scouts to sell hot dogs/cokes, and did all the marketing.

Booth renters simply got space (marked with chalk). They needed to bring everything else themselves.

A group of PTO Board members decided to host a schoolwide slot, so we solicited donations and had people drop off things the Wednesday-Friday before. We had a large space at the end of the row, just before the Salvation Army Truck. So as people closed down early, most donated their leftovers to our booth, and then we put whatever was left at the end into the truck. Frankly, most of the original donors were board members - so it wasn't quite as much stuff as we may have hoped. But we made about $400 and that part was all pure profit. It took about 3 hours of volunteer time to organize and price things Friday evening, and then about 6 people worked from 7am - 2pm on Saturday. Plus it was fun.

The high winds were a bit discouraging at times, but at least we had some sunshine. It went well for a first time with this group.

Hello there,
I am not quite sure what you mean by a tag sale. I have been involved in craft shows where spaces are sold to vendors. Sometimes they are required to pay a commission also. I would probably get a commitment from at least a dozen vendors before making final plans just to see what kind of participation you can count on. Then, I would have each vender pay at least 50% of their space fee in advance and make that non-refundable. Be sure to specify if you will supply tables and chairs or if they need to bring their own. Then, mark the spaces with tape or chalk and number them There are lots of details to think about and decide what would be the best way to handle them. So, what is a tag sale?
Good luck, Julie

Hello all...I am wondering if anyone has ever done a tag sale/ bazzar? Our fundraising committee came up with the idea to sell spaces to our school family, and also have kids games, food etc. I would appreciate any ideas, as this will be our first and hopefully an annual event!
