Clara, no picking just reading.
It's been my experience that common sense is in short supply in society these days and schools are no exception. The attitude that as I pay taxes so the school system (and all it's employees) "work" for me is a real problem. Our school system is not a department store with the teachers and administration working as clerks. The real customer service in our schools is about what we as a commiunity bring in the door. I see that where our a family use to weight out the common good now it seems to be a few parents wanting their individual rights first then let the leftovers go to the rest. Some parents won't accept no as an answer.
Hey, this all started with a yearbook issue? I do love this website. It takes you places.

Why do "rules" keep coming up, yeah we all have to follow rules and that is OK. What ever happened to COMMON SENSE???? Should common sense not prevail when a "rule" is not in place. Are we only rule followers or are we independendent thinkers?

It is about says This parent is not a volunteer for the committee for the sole reason that she has proven herself not to be able to work with others without causing turmoil (long track record of insults, negative critisims and inappropriate behavior).

I can see it now. This parent got wind of something, probably had a spy on the committee, and started up with the same tricks.

Not looking for answers, just venting. So don't pick on me!

its about kids.....i bet a simple meeting (since this seems to have been such a stress causer) between the principal and committee head/yourself, and the person, would have cleared everything up.

good communication is key, and for that, its always helpful to talk directly to the person.

sometimes forms are not all-telling, ie they never replace human interaction to avoid misinterpretation....even with best intentions, sometimes the intent gets misconstrued or misinterpreted.
anyway, among parent volunteers, animosities over such trivialities should never build up, management needs to step in so all parties are happy, otherwise no one is happy. youve gotta find harmony in the parent population, otherwise the disharmony spreads further. its just human nature. and for that, we have heads of school to step in and make sure everyone has been understood correctly, and that everyone is content with the outcome. thats my .02

it about kids....seems youve answered your own question! ---

“the headache happened when all year, they changed their opinion numerous times on if the student would be or not be, or how, or where... a organizational nightmare for the committee!... I am wondering what can be done to avoid another situation like this in the future... it was not fun this year to be constantly changing things, agonizing over if things were meeting the parents most current request (which was presented as a demand).”

and later:

“the parent made the requests/demands to the school, the school informed the yearbook committee”

cant you ask your principal to not accept change requests during the year?
parents need to know the rules and then all you have to do is pull out the rule book. just say NO to change requests.
