President banned

One step ahead of ya mum, those by-laws ($#@%^^) ;) say nothing so I called the principal and she took my call answering the phone "Yes, Madam President." I wanted to cry and throw-up! It's the sheer fact that the Principal don't want this Mom talking to anyone else until this matter can be resolved between the school and this mom. I have a better chance of going on vacation than ever seeing a resolution!

The part about this that I am having the harrdest time with is the fact that she honestly thinks she did NOTHING wrong and the school is out to 'get her.' The last time I talked to her, she mentioned calling a lawyer. No kidding. But stepping down is not an option. Well, not to her.

I was helping at a bazzar this morning and one of the moms said we need to have an adult run the register. I had been doing so for an hour and this gal said "No, I mean an adult not some 17 year old kid." Another gal says, "T has five children, I think she okay where she is at." So for a brief moment I was 17 again, was fun! Just thought I would share.......

What a mess. I didn't realize this happened during school hours. I know someone asked where the teacher was, but what I still don't get is what were the parents thinking??? I would never let my kids take a day off from school to go to someone's house to work on a single subject project, unless I had a note from the school.

Anyway, back to your original question about whether you're "IT", and assuming you don't have a President. I'm not so sure that's a safe assumption. Your Prez has been banned from the school; her daughter hasn't been expelled. Your bylaws probably just make it a requirement that your officers be members of the PTO, and let's say that your members are the teachers and any parents/guardians of a child in the school. Under that scenario, she can still be (and is!!) your President, technically. If she can have students meet at her house during the day, why wouldn't she call PTO meetings at her house at night? ;) Of course, from a practical standpoint, you need your Prez to have a good working relationship with the Principal.

Take a look at your bylaws before your next meeting and discuss the appropriate next steps with your Principal. If you don't follow proper procedure for replacing her, and this woman wants to remain President, this could get very nasty....

Ah ha. Sometimes you have to draw me pictures. ;) I see why there is such an upscuttle now. All of our schools has pretty strict field trip preperations and well as check in and out policies. So does she have proof since she said it was approved? She should have the kids emergency info. I would say unless she is really good at convincing these people your in charge.

Will you be able to replace her at the meeting or will you have to wait? Did the gets get in trouble for skipping school? To be a fly on the wall at that meeting!

THe English teacher is a "dork" and never had control over the situation from the first day of school. For this mom to have done this during school hours is the issue. After school was fine but the kids didn't even report to school that morning (they went straight to her home) also if the teacher would have been there too awhole nother reaction but that's not the case.
Without going into too much detail, this mom is like that kid in your class you wish would just move away. But until then everyday of class is a small nightmare and the poor teacher's hands are tied. Let's just say this was not only the straw that broke the back but more fuel for this on going burn!

Wednesday I was trying to get the newsletter and fundraiser letter copied to send home but couldn't because the President's name was in there as a contact and (yeap, you could see this coming!) I have to edit everything! (I'm 20 miles from school!) I did tell the Admin Asst right to her face that she has no idea the tight spot they are putting me in. She didn't care.

Monday night is our meeting, this is just crazy.....

If I understand correctly, the point is that this mom took it upon herself to host a workgroup DURING school in which the kids were at her house without parental/school permission. And the house was 10 miles away, which means they drove or rode with someone.

Yes, I'm sure she had the best of intentions. But I sure wouldn't want my child leaving campus and going to anyone's house without my knowledge.

If that's what I happened, then I agree - she needs to be reigned in and made to follow proper procedure. This was irresponsible and put the school in a very vulnerable position.

I'm still not clear how the English teacher let this happen. Where was she/he?

WOW! I see both sides of the story too. We once had an accident in our county that killed several and everyone was leary of letting their children out. I understand that part, no one wants to go to another funeral especially a child's. But I am really having a hard time on why the prinicpal is so upset about this incident. Where other problems so bad that this incident was the straw that broke the camel's back? The kids lied about being there. Where were their parents if this was held after school. I don't think the school could've been held responsible if something had occured. Why was this any different than a group study with the mom baking cookies? But then again it was a school project (a big one it seems) and if the teacher and others knew about it then proper channels probably should've been taken and an appropriate # of chaperone's should have been there. I guess it is like the hazing incidents we have been hearing about.

You don't have to respond, that is just my feelings. So how will the principal feel when they take you away in a straight jacket as we are approaching this holiday season? Just kidding you are in a tough situation and I am confident everything will work out in the end. ;)
