Executive board falling apart

Oh, Metzy, I'm just where you were. I've been dealing with 2 members of our group, the prez and asst prez, who disagree with EVERYTHING I say or do. I will voice my opinion or question what's being done on occassion, and they always take that as a personal insult and return it in kind. Now I've been elected prez for next year but, due to a change in our bylaws instigated by these two, the current prez will be my vice-prez. Yuk! She has already gone behind my back to try to sabatoge our fall fundraiser by staging a separate fundraiser for the media center first. I have "taken the high road" and let her tirades and insults roll off my back up to now, but have decided it's time to put my foot down and stop this nonsense. My only question is -- How? How do I put these two in their places without being just like them? Most of the board is behind me, but they have a couple of powerful teachers on their side, and our principal is not known for taking a stand or rocking the boat, if you know what I mean. They whine to him whenever things don't go their way, and he generally gives them what they want. Most everyone else is intimidated by them so they go along. I need to put a stop to all of this -- I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to do this and how to put these two witches in their places. Thanks for letting me vent!!

I hope that means I can still post!! I love this group and don't know what I would have done without you the last few months! Hopefully everyone at our school will have a chance to vote and I will become president, but I do hope that if I don't I am still welcome here!!

Thank You Tim. I know I would have gone crazy without this board. It is refreshing to find out that I wasn't the "only one" on so many matters. The support of my fellow posters was/is endearing and I'm glad I don't get the 'boot' just because I got the boot! I do think that I will tone down because, while there is always a reason to play devil's advocate, it has gotten me into hot water with other posters once in a while... lol... MidFieldHigh still isn't speaking to me...lol...

The only thing I really would have changed during my year at the helm, would have been what I talked about earlier. Even though we teach our children to turn the other cheek, I must say that even God got tired of taking it here and there, even going so far as to turn a woman into a pillar of salt (HEY CHRISY! YOU LISTENING??? LOL). OK, that may be out of context, but you know what I mean...lol... My point was that sometimes you gotta nip these things in the bud. Again, I want to stress that there is life after presidency.

OK... Everyone hold up their glass of beer, wine, pepsi, water, whatever; I'm going to make a toast! Here's to a great site, a great bunch of posters and to Tim, for making it happen for all of us. Here is to the elections that went our way, and to the ones that didn't. Here's to watching others follow in our footsteps. Here's to all the worker bees. Mostly, here's to the children we do it for!

Tim, I really do appreciate you and this site. Give Elly a goose for me.

Thanks,
Elizabeth :D :D :D :D

Are you kiddin?

This Forum is full of prez's, former prez's, would like to be prez's, would never want to be prez's, and many, many more.

A desire to share best ideas is the only pre-requisite.

Tim

Hi All

It has taken me 15 minutes to read all of your thoughts. I am running for VP of our PTO and have found some wonderful insight reading this posting.

This will be new to me if I win this election and YES it is an election. We have two people running for both Pres and VP. THe first time this has happened since our PTO was formed.

A little background: I have been involved since the beginning but as a worker bee. MO2 may even call me a back seat driver. I have been a fundraiser, curriculm person and all around volunteer. The only thing I haven't done is sit on the Exec Board. I voice my opinion but am always ready to work for the good of all children.

Our Executive Board started falling apart around November of this school board and we have been limping along for some time. The Pres and VP have not spoken in some time. It seems like that has always been that way at the end of every school year. I am in hopes that after the election May 14th, if I am VP, that I can correct some of the damage done by this Pres.
If the Current Pres wins, I will decline the nomination. Our Pres has upset so many of our old volunteers that nobody is helping for Teacher Appreciation, Superstart(Preschoolers 6 week tour of school and get to know their way around), Mothers Day Plant Sale.

She has always seemed to be one of those people who is around asking to help but when you need her she always has something else more pressing to do.

Sorry to go on and on. Guess just a little nervous about the upcoming election and wanting to do a great job if elected.

I also think that MetzyMom should be allowed to keep posting, I could really use the help.

I would like to thank you all for listening.

Metzy - my vote is YES please keep posting. Without valuable insight from those who have bravely gone before us where would us newcomers be? I have read, printed, copied & pasted so many ideas for our brand new school that will open next year that I actually had to start files so I could keep things straight. Without you and so many like you I would be lost and to be honest would never have agreed to bite of this big piece I'm not sure I can chew. PLEASE STAY!

Devil's advocate is a not a bad thing. The opportunity to see something new from all angles is important and that's the point of this board anyway - isn't it? To get feedback from those who have tried it or haven't but still have an opinion? We need help and advice. Please say you'll stay!

Tim - if she can't still post - please let us know so that we can all give her our personal email addresses and we'll handle it that way, but my guess is you'll see it this way, too - having read a thing or two you've written.

Metz - the offer is still open to come to the burbs of Chicago and work on our board. You can even be prez if you want!
