The ULTIMATE Donation List

At a suggestion read here I had gone into HH Gregg and they do let you pick out 2 items "at cost". I am very grateful for the opportunity but was surprised to learn there isn't a big markup on electronics. Every manufacturer and even products within a company can vary as to the discount. FYI - from what I've seen so far a 10-15% margin is average. Now if you compare it to the MSRP price and not just from the stores standard pricing it would be a larger percentage.

I also stopped in our local Best Buy and the manager was also willing to work with us. She didn't necessarily limit it to 2 items and sounded flexible. I only asked her about a few digital cameras and it was about a 15% margin. They do have exclusions . . . Apple products, Bose etc. Both companies made it sound like the gaming systems have no markup. TVs might be a bit higher.

I did confirm with Best Buy that if a minimum bid (your cost) is not met at the auction that the item could be returned within a 30 day period. That's great to know because it removes the risk factor of putting the money out up front.

Two Questions:

Amy - how close did Redbox cut it to your event? Our's is tomorrow and I've given up hope, but you never know!

The other question is more general, we've received notification from the Detroit Lions that we'll be getting a picture in the mail. I think that I got that email at least two weeks ago, we still don't have the picture, and like I mentioned above our event is tomorrow. I have the frame ready to go, so do I print out the Detroit Lions lego and try to auction the pic off with the promise to deliver it once we have it or should I just take it off of our list?

Thanks for you advice.

PTA Dad-
We received a redbox donation in the mail, but with no warning or response from them. It just showed up with 5 movies, 6 redbox coupons for a free movie, microwave popcorn and a cardboard box to fold into a popcorn bowl.

Hope this helps.

Not sure if anyone else has posted this, but if you put

w w w .mc (name of your state) . c o m into the web. There will be a list of McDonalds restaurants. Pick one and then in lower right corner there is a donation request link.

I know this worked for Pennsylvania.

Hello! I was wondering for those of you that received donations from Carmex or Redbox did you get notification that you were either accepted or denied a donation. I have been waiting for nearly two months on both and haven't heard back.

We are doing our first walk-a-thon at our school next week.
