You know I keep meaning to pass this to you guys for the holidays--I love poinsettias (sp) but don't like the look of them in a pot...with shiny plastic stupid paper that looks tacky -- so some show I was watching showed me that if you snip off the blooms (like a rose) and then burn the end completely closed and put in a vase with water, it'll stay like that for up to 4 or 5 days. It is beautiful when you get them all different colored together in one big vase. So as you entertain this is a lovely centerpiece.
The cocktail party still sound like it was fun. I had a very nice holiday dinner party last night (I'm up at 3 cause my legs are still hurting . FINALLY made one of those bries in pastry that came out. I stuffed it with dried cherries, brown sugar and almonds and covered it with puff pastry. Every other time I'm made those they've come "cheese lumps" but this year it stood up...I think cause I preassembled and then put back into the fridge for a couple of hours.
It was all yummy and very holidayish. My hubby said "okay - is THAT out of your system now?"...my boys went and "babysat" the neighbors 3 small children. They did very, very well but have decided that watching dogs is WAY easier ...

I agree the (legal) immigrants and those using Visa to work (and work hard) are much better than the 'Johnny is gonna make millions like LeBron' while skipping an education, needing Bling and stipclubs, steroids, HGH, fast cars, etc; when they dont realize pro athletes make up around less than 1% of population. (now if we could get teachers, nurses, etc comparable pay)
The Japanese ballplayers and drills (FUNdamentals) are amazing to watch and the pride in oneself and TEAM is amazing to watch too (Wont see any of them in the Mitchel Report)

2. People who ask your children for a "wish" list. One is made and given to them and then...once again, nothing on it is bought. Why ask if you're not going to bother to even look at it?
Snowed in ~ again! Hubby stuck in Albany. Kids trudging home through the snow. Looks like a hot cocoa, grilled cheese, soup and a movie night here!

Ahhh ... why does life seem so much more happy after a cut and color. Well we are offically all set for the holiday. All gifts purchased, everyone has had a hair cut, everyone has new holiday attire and the cookies are made. Now we just gotta do something about those people who order their gifts on-line and send them to your home un-wrapped. I tell ya this year that is my #1 complaint. Anyone care to add to the list.

Well d, the cocktail party was a simple affair. Pretty much everyone came straight from work-so there were dressy jeans to suits. I stuck with pants and a festive red sweater, so I was just fine. It was thrown by a financial advisor and his wife, so there was A LOT of $$$$ wandering through that house. Very little of which was mine by the way! Kind of a fun thing to do.
Your dinner sounds very fabulous and sophisticated! I've been experimenting in the kitchen with fresh herbs and some new ingredients and my family has begun to eye things suspiciously and carefully sniff them before they dig in. I haven't done anything too exotic, but I am dying to try. MIL asked me to make a special cake for Christmas Eve, so I'm looking through my recipe collection for something extra special. I might do two if I can't decide!
You know Shawn, some of these players who have come from other countries to play ball in the US are better role models for our kids then the "American" players! Having a dream, working hard to achieve it, never forgetting where you came from, and giving back...qualities I want to see in my kids.
