you may be the one gettinglooked down on, but you are the one who stood up for the kids and what is best for them and that is ALWAYS the right thing to do! be proud of yourself for taking a stand and doing what needed to be done.
You are awesome in my book!

Just wanted to say our school has done this for years. I know in the past couple years we did change the name form SANTA SHOP to Ginger Bread Shoppe to be more politically correct. We also are changing it this year to offer more $1.00 store stuff so the kids could afford it. Yeah the parents can take them shopping, but the kids learn a lot shopping and picking things out on their own.
Our parents were really got excited when we told them we revamped the idea a bit. We used to go through a company, but decided its better to do our own.
On a side note though our Intermediate School which is 3-6 grade we had a new president last year and she boycotted the Shoppe for the same reasons being cheap gifts, parents take them etc. Well the parents went nuts and in the January meeting they gave her and the principal an earfull and said that was something that should have been voted on and that the kids and parents enjoyed it.

So this year its back on the school calendar.

Heres a good one to my problem. The current Pto pres now denies stating that the school would not have Santa's Workshop after this year. Now I am to look like a fool. But the Principal will not speak to me when I enter the school. I just get looks. So I guess I got one thing accomplished we get to keep Santa's Workshop the more important of the two for the kids. Even though I am being looked down upon.

In our Constitution it does say we are to use Roberts Rules of Order. But the Pres is telling me she does not have to bring it to the parents to vote on it. I asked her for that in the begining. I didnt start with the petition. I tried talking to her to straighten this out first. But she refused to discuss it her mind was made up. We found out about the whole thing when a past officer came into the school three days before school was out to get the wooden games they were going to throw them out. I was with the current Pres. The new Pres doesnt even take over till July 28th she is just doing what she wants already. Who knows what else they threw out. What they consider JUNK

Then you know what, you sit back and wait for them to fail. I'm not intenting to sound mean but if she won't listen and wants all absoulute power then she can do it with itty bitty volunter support (kinda Aladin quote there).

I find it hard to work with that kind of thinking.

I try to stay calm but the more I read the more I want to buy this Presdient a copy of Roberts Rules , a clue and a cricket (call him Jimney so he can sit on her shoulder).

Love Uncle Ted- my brother took his hunting class! OOOHHH HEYY!!!! oohh not very christian thought there....sorry
But as Kenny ROgers sang "you gotta know when to hole'em, know when to walk away, know when to run..."I can get ya a deal on Nikes :D

No doubt it stings, but yes, the principal has the final say about what goes on in his/her building during the school day. Have you considered holding the Santa Shop on a Friday night or Saturday morning? You could have a parents-only "lounge" where they enjoy coffee and conversation while the kids shop. Maybe your principal is feeling the pinch of having all the kids leave class to participate. This could be a satisfactory alternative.

Is it true that no matter what I do the principal has the final yea or nea to what we do. No matter what the majority of parents want. A former teacher is telling me this. Oh and by the way I am a BIG fan of TED NUGENT I NEVER shut up either
