I'm not sure you should cancel. You have 15 famillies who have RSVP'ed... what a great way for the board to really get to know those famillies! As your playing games, you'll have a great chance to extol the virtues of being a PTO volunteer. Next event, you'll have a bigger pool of volunteers to choose from.
Personally, I kind of like it when we end of having a smaller event... as president, I get more of an opportunity to really mingle and get to know new famillies... I don't always get that opportunity at our bigger functions!
Just my 2cents.

I hate to say it but are these kind of events always held on Fridays? I know that in our school we wouldn't get much participation on a Friday night. Everyone wants to just be home...

Perhaps if you held the event on even a very small scale, people would talk about how fun it was so that the next time you have one, you'd get a few more.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

I even hate to say this. Due to lack of volunteers and lack of particiaption, we may have to cancel our first ever Family Fun & Games Night! I am so upset! I just dont know what to do :( It is scheduled for this Friday, Nov. 18 and we have been advertising it around school for over a month--Posters from PTOToday, flyers, reminders in our Newsletter, on the school sign. We were off for a week last week so I had a reminder notice ready to go out today. I got to school and found only 15 families RSVPed and NO additional VOLUNTEERS to help run a game or anything.

We only had 4 people scheduled to help and one called to cancel today due to work obligations (understandable). I revised the reminder to say that we were in serious need of volunteers and if we didnt receive more we may have to cancel, hoping that would really get to some!
