Internet Safety

I realize this is a little after the fact, but check with your local government--especially county or state. Our prosecutor's office in NJ has a great program that is a real eye opener for the parents. It's very popular, and you have to book way in advance. Two officers from the Computer Crimes Unit come in and give very graphic examples of how things can go terribly wrong. They'll also come and speak to the kids-- they'll explain to them how you can THINK you're talking to another kid, but actually be talking to some pervert. They also show how things you think mean nothing, or give nothing away about yourself actually do, and how these predators use this stuff to figure out who you are, where you live and how best to entice you into a bad situation.

AOL used to have SafetyBot that went around to schools, but when I tried to find SafetyBot last March, it was a very frustrating exercise in futility. So we went with netsmartz.org, and they did a very nice presentation for our health and safety fair. They will also come to schools during the day and make presentations; they've recently entered into a partnership with our school district to make presentations throughout. I haven't seen one yet, but, like I said, we were pleased with what they did at our fair. Here's the link: www.netsmartz.org/

I need your help ladies I am looking for a Internet Safety Program for the school. I'm looking for one for parents and for the kids. Does anyone know of one? Possibly free

The school is looking into having something to present to parents to make them aware some of things the kids are doing and ways to control it. I guess the new thing is which I wasnt aware of is POD Porn. The kids download stuff onto their Ipods and take it to school with this stuff on. Pretty Nasty.

We are also having the Escape School Program but wanted something else to cover the computer issues.

Thanks

Cindy
