We too had a couple speakers come to our meeting Monday night and to my surprise the DARE officer brought with him a friend from the Better Business (BBB) and SHE WAS AWSOME!! Nothing scary but very real and had great pointers.

She really focused on sitting down with your child and seeing where they are going and doing on the web or their space on my space. Also she talked about how to shop smarter online.

Lots of great info!

We hosted an internet safety meeting last month and had two speakers, one from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and one from the local branch of Internet Crimes Against children. Both were free of charge and both were excellent speakers. The NCMEC speaker was absolutely WONDERFUL! The presentation was compelling and made a huge impact. The ICAC speaker was good as well and certainly brought what was happening in our own community upfrint and personal. I would highly recommend contacting both of these groups for speakers.

Actually the website is www.isafe.org. We had a (free) I-Safe presentation at our PTA meeting for our K-5 school last month. Our school district is working with the high school kids to have them mentor the younger ones. This was very informative, but very scary....it's amazing how many creeps are out there.
Hope this helps.

i-safe is a free internet safety awareness program for K-12. It is run in part by the justice dept.

Our school is using it now, and it is going over very well.

You may look at www.ispace.org for more info.
