I'm new to this message board and I think has many great ideas. I read about all the movie night and I'm glad to see that someone else is going to do one outside. We have them outside and it's great. But we just use the lunch rooms back wall to show the movie on. We rope off a section for blankets only and chairs go behind that. Our PTO has no admission for the movie but we charge for the popcorn. We have the different classrooms sell other snacks to raise money but the last week of school we sell everything and we sell all the snacks for only $.25. It's the best time ever and attendance is about 300 people.Of course we have to start the movie at about 8 p.m. but we fundraise all year so this is something that everyone can enjoy and not have to pay for. Have fun because outside is great, weather permitting of course.

We are planning our first night in 2 weeks. We have rented a giant inflatable screen with sound system the paln is to hold it the field so we do not have to limit attandence . We will have a small snack bar. We plan on showing 2movies one G and one PG with an intermission between the 2. We are doing this for fun not profit so we will not have an admission price but will sell 50/50 raffle tickets to make enough to cover our costs. Hope it goes well will post after and let everyone know.

I helped plan a Family Movie Night back in March 2004 and this is how we did it. Our school is small(300 students) and there is a room known as the multi-purpose room that we held it in. A parent with the PTO works for a company that let us borrow their LCD player. This machine projects DVDs onto a screen that we borrowed from our local high school tech center. Our local Jiffy Mart (Convience Store)donated bottled water and individual sized bags of popcorn and chips. We didn't charge admission or for the refresments as we wanted to show that the PTO wasn't just about fundraising. We sent home flyers with the kids, hung up posters around the schooland the principal mentioned it over the intercome during announcments. We made sure that we specified that the kids had to be with an adult and to bring blankets, pillows, etc. to sit on. A parent donated the $50.00 bucks needed to purchase a one time only movie license. We chose Finding Nemo. The kids thought it was great! We had about 70 kids(I know out of 300!) but it was the first time and we're hoping that if we show a movie that hasn't been seen a hundred times allredy maybe we'll get more. Some of the kids kept getting up but I expected that with the food and water bathroom trips would be needed and some had allready seen the movie. We had the showing on a Friday evening at 7:00pm with help from the Principal,VP and 3 or 4 parent volunteers. Oh, our school is K-3rd grade.

Hope some of this helps.

Locally, the town has had movie nights for the kids. They've done it at the local park or the baseball complex. I 'think' when asking ... the man comes with his huge screen and shows the movie of your choice for $200-$300. If your school has a lot of money (our doesn't) this might be a good idea to do something in the summer, outside, on the school grounds. Have a little refreshment stand. Kids sat on blankets, parents on lawn chairs in the back.

Now reading these posts (you are all awesome ) I realized we have a theater roon in the original building that would be perfect to start in! THe room is the size of a small classroom and the sound is better than the auditorium! Oh yeah, also our PTO wouldn't have to pay to use the other building....
