PLEASE contact your local Police department and ask them - get them involved! They will be able to tell if he's even allowed within that 1/2 mile of the schools. They should also be able to inform you if he's some young kid who got caught up with a younger girlfriend or an adult who committed a crime against a child.
Once you have all the information - do whatever to keep the kids safe. I agree - do we really want to wait and see what happens?

Who posted it? Where was it printed off? If it is a photo available to the public, where was it aquired? Maybe, that is where you would go to find out if there are any discrimination laws/policies on posting sexual offenders.
At my son's last school, there was no concern for the registered predator/offenders' "rights". A note simply came home with each and every student along with a photo. The same info was in the local papers and posted at the schools.
They're registered for a reason. Someone considered them dangerous enough to keep track of.
It only takes one time, one adult looking the other way, one child for people to say "gee, if we only knew...". Are you willing for it to be your child? I'm not.
Keep the signs up and inform the students and parents. Better safe than sorry.
My only problem is that the sex offender registry here doesn't give the full facts about why they are on the registry. In my mind, there is a difference between an 18 yo male and 17 yo female having consentual sex, and more serious offenses.
Maybe there was a valid reason he was at the Catholic school. Maybe not. It's easy for things to get blown out of proportion when the story is getting passed along from person to person.
I'm all for informing parents when there is a real threat. I would feel more comfortable speaking with the police or principal of the Catholic school to find out the specifics behind the other school "incident", then deciding what to do about informing parents.
Oh my gosh! Discrimination.. what crime is worse... discrimination or being a sex offender?
Keep the sign UP & protect those kids. Don't doubt yourself.
