We call it "Tears and Cheers". On the first day of school, our Kindergarten parents meet in the Library right after the bell rings. The PTO serves a light breakfast and gives a short presentation about our school and the PTO. Last year was our first year and it went over well!! Our Kindergarten teachers also appreciated it. The breakfast encouraged the parents to leave the classroom instead of "hanging around". I remember sending mine off to Kindergarten. The first was tears, the third was cheers!!

Oh my gosh, that's too funny!!! Maybe we can try that with some of the positions we have open!

We've also done our the first day right as the bell rings, the parents and younger siblings come and eat. We serve muffins, juice, milk, coffee, etc. We have a cute poem printed out for the parents of new kindergartners. We also have a small raffle of things like school T-shirts, school waterbottles, school magnets, (for the back of the car), school pencils, notebooks, etc. As a joke, we raffled the job of fundraising coordinator. Everyone thought that was funny.

We had a great turn out. We'll definately do it again.

Do a search of the site for BooHoo and you should get lots of info.

We did ours the first day of school and have it start right as the kids go to class. It lasted for an hour. We served donuts, muffins, coffee, and juice. We also had some little treats like Hershey Kisses and Hugs, boxes of Kleenex, notepads and pens for parents to write the names and phone numbers of new friends they meet, and PTO info.

Due to parking issues and the fact that the greater portion of our kids bus in to school, we had such low turnout the year before that we didn't do it this year.
