We are asking for donations of money or food from our parents and that is working out GREAT!!! There are so many parents that are both working so the MONEY is easier for them. We are using the money to buy the majority of the food and then using what it left to get supplys for the teacher's rooms. All the money will go to the teachers in one way or another.

Okay.... I love some of the ideas.... Simplymom, Imhmom2two.... how big are your schools??? We are 3 grades (3,4,5) and have almost 1000 students.... 38 homeroom teachers alone. Can these things be done on this large of a scale? We usually do a luncheon but I would LOVE something different and more unique.

For the prizes the principal sends out a letter to local businesses asking for donations. We had quite a few donated already. But whatever is needed after that the PTO donates gift certificates for different things. She sent out a real nice letter this year asking "has a teacher made a difference in your life" We like to make a diiference in theirs during our teacher appreciation week. I think it home for A lot of businesses. We raffle the prizes each day one for each grade level K-2 for the entire week.

For the luncheon I asked a few parents that I know work at local restaurants to donate for the actual luncheon and all of them said yes. Also we are sending out letter to the parents one for each grade level to bring something different (side dishes, appetizer, snacks, dessert)

On Monday we are doing a coffee bar. Just going to our local Dunkin Donuts where you can buy the flavored coffees and it serves 10 so wer are getting 4 different ones. Maybe some muffins and donuts also.

It's our school's 50th anniversary so we celebrated a different decade every day. We had fun dress days for the school, John Travolta look alike contest for the boys, a 80's big hair day contest for the girls, music, balloons, decorations, daily gifts for all staff members, door prizes, afternoon snacks for the teachers, ice cream bars for all students on Wednesday and Friday, a spa day, video games... According to the teachers, this was the best Teacher Appreciation Week in the history of the school. We have pictures and lots of information on our website: www.lakeshorelions.com .

We planned something for everyday throughout the week. The teachers really loved it. We did breakfast one morning with muffins, donuts, and juices. We did lunch one day with parents bringing in various items. We had an italian theme so we had a crockpot of spaghetti, stromboli, lasagna, fettucini alfredo, salad, garlic bread, and more desserts than our teachers could eat. We decorated the tables with candles and little baskets of snack foods like m& m's with peanuts, goldfish, etc. They really loved it. The next two days we had parent volunteers who cleaned out the teachers cars. We had shop vacs, armour all, windex, and a little dangly air freshner that we hung on the mirror. We had a local gas station donate a car wash for each teacher so we gave them their little receipt with their code and they could decide whether they wanted to use it or not and they could also pay extra to upgrade it if they wanted at the car wash. If you are interested or need more information on this let me know. It is fairly easy to pull off and our teachers looked forward to it every year. They always had the same air freshener that we put in the year before still hanging from their mirror. The hard part is getting parents to help. We pulled it off with about 5-8 of us and it helped dividing it into two days. On another day we handed out little gifts that I made. One was a decorated packet of flower seeds and the other was a teachers survival pack. The last day we ended with a raffle where I had collected about 12 different donations from local businesses and we had teachers put tickets into individual sacks that listed each donation. That was the first year we tried to get donations and I was amazed at how easy it was. A lot of the bigger businesses have an employee that handles charitable donations. We had gift cards from Pizza Hut, Blockbuster, Taco Bell, Home Depot, etc.. We also received gift certificates from Petco, local golf courses, and Dicks Sporting Goods. It was a great week and we received many wonderful thank-you notes from the teachers.
Hope this helps.
