Meeting Time?

We alternate our meetings.

They are always the first Wednesday of the month, but we alternate times between 3:30 and 6:30. It works really well for us. At the 3:30 meetings, we get several of our teachers that attend, and at the evening meetings, we get lots of parents who can't come to the afternoon meetings.

We meet on the 3rd Monday every other month beginning in September. We start promptly at 7:00pm, we provide babysitting service from our 8th grade students--they actually go into our Pre-K/K room and they kids get to play and run and have fun! This year we started to theme our meetings. Our board shows up at EVERY meeting, our Principal is at EVERY meeting, we have,at the very least 3 teachers that come--out of 9--and we usually have around 20 others. Since we've started theming our meetings we noticed that we get a bigger attendance. The very first meeting--obviously--is our largest--usually 50+ strong and then dwindles from there. We have fun and so do our parents. Our last meeting was on the first day of spring so we had lots of "springy" items there to give out as gifts. We went to our local Dollar store and bought packets of seeds for 2/$1.00 and then we also bought some yard stakes and other things for outdoors that went along with the Spring theme. It didn't cost us more than about $20.00 and we had a blast and so did our parents. They felt more relaxed and didn't feel that we were going to pressure them into anything(which we didn't). I have other ideas if you'd like just email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I will share my ideas with you! Thanks!

We meet the third Tuesday, 6 pm. Childcare provided. We used to meet on Thursday, surveyed parents they recommended Tuesday as a better nght. We moved it hoping for more attendance. Didn't happen. The numbers who come to meetings is really unimportant as long as you have a strong volunteer base to pull from. We use the PTA's Three for Me and have a few hundred people signed up for it. We average four board members and four members at our meeting but rarely lack for volunteers for any program or event.

We meet the 3rd Monday of every month (but December) at 6:30. In prior years, we averaged about 10 of us. :D This year our average is 30+. :D
We added a website for getting out information as well as a PTO Newsletter. The newsletter goes home the Friday before the meeting. It serves as a reminder of the meeting as well as lots of information.

We meet the third Tuesday of the month, every month except the short one and busy one, December. We've started holding some of our meetings at 9:00 am, and the others at 7:00pm which is our traditional time. We've gotten great response to the daytime meetings, but will keep some evening ones for our working parents. Teachers often come to our evening meetings, but obviously they can't come to one during the day. Principal is there regardless.

We meet third Tuesday of the month at 4:00, I hate it because school gets out at 3:10, so you either have to kill 50 minutes up at the school or if your kid rides the bus home you have to wait until they get home and rush back up to the school. In my case I wouldn't make it to the meeting on time!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot for some unknown reason we don't even meet for the three months of basketball season. Definetly an Indiana thing I guess.
