Now, here's the new stuff I want to add (I'm the new PTA president:

This is what we have planned.
Spaghetti Dinner

Ice Cream Social

Yearbook

Fall Fundraiser (we're not too sure we're doing one. Decission will be made later this month)

Santa Secret Shop

Spring Fling (not too sure what we're doing, but we will do something)

Real exciting huh? School does Box Tops/Campbells, some class rooms will do different things just for them.
The problem is that we only have a handful of volunteers that are willing and able, so we don't want to burn them out.
Well, my take is that if parents want things for their children, they need to get off their butts and help us. They're in for a very rude awaking this year with all the budget cuts that the BOE is making.

Ok off my soapbox now, but it really pi22s me off that they can complain, but don't want to help with anything.

I really didn't mean that we don't have "fun" fundraisers, we do. We have a great time with our Ice Cream Social, Spagetti Dinner, and the most fun at our Fall Festival. Put in order to participate, the families have to pay. Granted our tickets for the festival are .25 each and we charge 1-2 tickets per game, Ice Cream social is $1.00 per cup of ice cream, but it can add up for large families.

I just wanted to have a night that cost families NOTHING. That's when I received the weird looks. I'll keep at it. Our Pres. is will not be involved next year and the Treas. has already said that this is her last year, so I'll keep trying! It's not that they're not great people, but sometimes new ideas can scare people. It's the old addage, "don't fix what ain't broke".

Library mom...don't give up! The faces of the families at our events are something else. We have watched our Fall Festival go from 125 kids the first year to over 325 three years later. Our school never use to hold events like this, with a new group and principal who truly believed in family opportuintes to have fun we have grown! keep trying

I'm with ya Library Mom. Our PTO does seem to exist for other reasons but we're trying to add some "fun" events. It's interesting how everyone's "focus" is different. I find all of these ideas very inspiring, though, and hope to try some of them this year.
