What do you have planned for Family Fun Night this school Year?

One thing that helped to make our Family Reading Nights very successful last year was that the kids baked cookies during the school day to be served at the event that night. They did this under the leadership of their teachers, not volunteers, so I don't know exactly how they managed it, but they rotated in and out of the "cookie prep" area by class, and all day the school was filled with the smell of baking cookies. (They had to read instructions for the recipes and I think the whole cooking thing was explained in terms of a science project, so it covered some academic objectives along the way.)

I'm certain every child went home and insisted their family attend!

Holly, I hope you find this question among all of the others. What is the Read and Feed Night you were wanting to change your story night to? Can you give me some details on it? I am looking to change the format of our reading night, we dont' have very good attendance at it and any suggestions are welcome! you can email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. Our school use to do a AR sleepover until the liability issue came up...isn't that what is always about. they did roller skating, story telling, games in the gym, snacks, etc. When ever i would mention doing it again to our old principal she would cringe! Oh well...

Someone on here had a slumber party for the kids with most AR points. It sounded really neat. I emailed that to the principal and she liked it too. I would have loved doing something like that with my mom, but not sure my boys would like slumbering with mom. Do you have a night out with dads planned too? Perhaps a campout on the school grounds, even in the gym?

We did a PTO event called, Mother/Daughter PJ movie night. The teachers came in PJ's and braided hair for the girls. The movie was Parent Trap and the kids layed out sleeping bags in the cafetorium and had popcorn. We even did a craft the kids loved it. The parents thought it was great too. What a great photo op too.
