I just spoke to the lady who handles donations. I told them what it was for and she was very happy to donate ice cream. I was a bit surprised since we're the 5th largest school district in the US and I'm sure they get hit up all of the time. I don't know if it was because we're only about 3 miles from the plant (there are at least 3 other elem. schools even closer than we are to them) or if because I called and personally asked? I'm not sure, but I'm very happy!!
I would talk to Costco, Sam's and maybe a local dairy. Remember also, WalMart gets their allotment of donation monies the beginning of each month.
Holly, thank you for the information. What did you say to good humor to donate the ice cream, I can't get very many people to donate any thing here in phoenix, maybe it's the fact that are so many schools. I m not sure but I would like to know what you said, maybe it might work for me here.

I remember in Youth making a 20 foot banana split. Then, we were given 4 foot forks to eat it with. The only way to do this is to feed someone else. Whoever figures this out first gets a prize. It shows that we need each other. We also dressed up bananas. Mine was a hula dancer.
We're serving ice cream and letting the kids and parents top them themselves with goodies. We have a Good Humor plant here and they are donating the ice cream and we'll just buy the toppings, bowls, spoons & napkins. We did a small ice cream social for the teachers/staff during Teacher/Staff Appreciation week and it was so much fun.
We just want to follow through with the ice cream theme throughout all of the open house activites, flyers, incentives, etc.
