Hey Michelle,

I was talking about you today! Were your ears burning? LOL No, I've never attended a PTA convention. I'd LOVE to though. I thought of the ice cream scoop incentive thing from a behavior chart thing I used to do when teaching Kdg. years ago. That's funny! Great minds think alike! BIG LOL I'd appreciate anything you want to share. You can even drop it in the mail to me if you'd like. Email me off this board and I'll give you the school address and mine. I did see your name in my big list of councils and such for NV. Tonight was my first meeting as president. I'm so excited! We have such a good board as well as principal & vp. They pretty much let me do whatever I want. It's all good of course ;) I'm so excited about next school year.

You should check into the Junior Engineering program that Utah State University offers! There are about 9 Clark County schools that participate and everyone I've spoken to raves about it. Bruce is the contact there This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and their web site is juniorengineering.usu.edu.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hey Holly I forget you're in my state!! Were you at last year's convention at the Riviera? One of the schools (the one that got all the awards it seems...) did an ice cream themed Membership drive and it included cutting out and hanging up cones on charts. Basically the same idea. I think she may even have the ice cream cone template and I'm going to be down south in July. I can see if I can get copies of the membership stuff she did and bring it with me.
Oh, State is also adopting a membership theme if units want to use it. The new board isn't officially in office yet and the office person just took a new job so I can't say when the packets are going out but it's kinda neat... Maybe you can combine the themes.
Oh let me know if you want me to try and get that stuff....

Yes, we do. We charge $7 per person and that includes our state dues. Membership isn't a big portion of our funds. We do cookie dough, cheese cake, pretzels, butter braids, tortes, fudge, brownies, etc. right when school starts and that pretty much makes our entire budget for the year. We have a couple little things throughout the year.

I'm excited to do an ice cream theme. I hope my board approves it tomorrow night! They better! LOL

Love it HOLLY!!!!! I may just have to steal that idea from you ;) . Since you are PTA does your group "charge" a membership fee?

For our Open House which is Sept. 1 (the 1st Th. of the first week of school for us), we are wanting to do an Ice Cream Social. We have served hot dogs & chips in the past and want to do something different this year. So, one of my VPs and I were thinking to take the ice cream theme and run with it. We want to place an ice cream cone for each classroom up on the wall during open house. Then as parents join our PTA they get to choose a "strawberry-pink", "vanilla-white" or "chocolate-brown" scoop of ice cream to place their child's name and/or their name on then we will stick it to the wall as well building a big ice cream cone for each class. The class with the most ice cream scoops that evening will win an ice cream party for their class. Also, for our flyers and such for the beginning of the year can say "Here's the Scoop" etc. to keep with the ice cream theme. If you can think of any other ideas, please let me know!

Thanks bunches,
Holly
