Grannies can't serve...?!

THUMBS UP TO THIS DISCUSSION . . .one of our grandparents just won as "parent rep" at our PTO elections for next school year.

We also have grandparents as "O.A.S.I.S" volunteers and their eyes just shine every time they come in to tutor their student in reading once a week.

GRANDPARENTS ARE WANTED/NEEDED/ACCEPTED at our school LOL.

I have to agree. Grandparents are now more involved in the rearing of their grandchildren and have a lot to contribute to their grandchildren's lives. Many are the primary caregivers or spend more time with the children then their own parents because of babysitting issues.
Anyone concerned with the welfare of their children is an asset in my opinion.

I read the article about grandparents being banned from leadership positions. Didn't President Bush pay a ton of tax payers money on campaigns just a couple years ago begging grandparents to volunteer? Do people for get that easily?

There must have been some bad incidents to spark that but it seems a lot like cutting off your nose to spite your face, throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and other useful sayings that I learned from my grandad.

It's hard enough to get people to put themselves out there and volunteer without adding another obstacle that makes them feel unwanted and unappreciated.

I think it's a bad move. Just address the real problem. If it's security or safety, find a way to deal. Don't shoo away volunteers.

Good grief.
