Childcare at Meetings

We have our meetings in the library. The children are either in the gym or in a classroom.

Child care is provided by our Middle School Volunteen program. In appreciation, we give the Volunteens 2-McDonald's gift certificates each.

(You may want to try the National Honor Society teacher at your local high school - they need volunteer credits from time to time)

Now this may sound crazy, but we meet in the foyer of the school and the kids go in an empty classroom down the hall to watch a movie. We used to meet in the media room but the desks were uncomfortable (try fitting into a small desk very pregnant....I know!! ) so we moved it to the open foyer in the entry way. Also it makes it easier to let late parents in!

Our sitter is the daughter of the President this year and asks for tips (Once I gave her some laundry tips but she didn't like that....oh I was kidding I did pay her!!)

Hello Arkansas! We do provide childcare. We have two to six children who are supervised by a highschool student. Our teachers have been wonderful on this issue. At times we use a classroom and other times the music room. The children know they must not play with anything off limits and must clean up after themselves. It's worked great. We pay the highschool student $10 and she's happy. Kim

Our meetings are in our library. The kids go to the gym with our teacher / teacher aides who receive comp time for their services. Our district does not allow employees, full or part time, to get volunteer hours.

We sometimes have childcare in the library. We meet in a room that is right next to the library so it is really convenient. Our librarian is wonderful about letting the kids color, watch a video and even have snacks as long as they are supervised. We also have a teacher's lounge that is available. We have even thought of having chilcare in the gym...just give em a couple of balls and turn em loose.

OK folks, there has been a lot of discussion about childcare at meetings. Where do the kids stay? Our meetings are in the cafeteria and teachers are reluctant to let the kids in their rooms. If the weather's nice, I guess they can go outside, but what about nasty days? I would just like some options.
