Come to think of it, PTO bought the Rizzo. The one that PTO always uses, so they don't have any right to complain.

I am constantly coping at both our primary and intermedaite school and have never paid a cent. I copied four different flilers to go home with the kids and had to have 500 for each school---total 4000 copies. Also I am never questioned by either school to review what fliers or notices I am sending home. I think it greatly depends on the size of your school and your working realationship with your pricipal. Our school functions wonderfully with both pricipals and have never had to deal with this. Since the fliers are for school use I dont see why this would come from PTO funds. :(

Hello fellow volunteers~

I have a question in regards to PTO Notices and Photocopies. In speaking to our principal he has brought up the cost of photocopying our PTO notices. Keep in mind this fall is busier with our first meeting and main fundraiser coming up this month. I think in total we've sent out about 3 school wide notices, approximately 430 copies each time, and about 4 notices to 25 teachers. I do not think this is an outrageous amount and in the years prior it was never an issue. So my question is, does your PTO pay for copying either to the school or to an outside business? And if so, if you don't mind, how much approximately ?

Another issue that has come up is this year the principal has asked to see anything that gets distributed first and he has to sign off on it before it can be copied. I personally have an issue with this because the main reason we became an organized PTO was to have more control over the money and activities, in order to boost parent involvement. We wanted the parents to feel like they had ownership in the organization. And now if feels like he is trying to exert some control back. I have no problems giving him a copy of our notices and having him at meetings, in fact I encourage it. But our PTO has gone as far as to write into the Bylaws that we would not try to control school policy, I just want the same professional courtesy. So does your principal have to approve your PTO notices?

Thanks for your input in advance.

WE DO NOT PURCHASE PAPER. WE DO NOT PAY FOR COPYING. THIS IS DONE AT THE SCHOOL. ALL OF OUR FUNDS GO RIGHT BACK TO THE SCHOOL, SO WE HAVE AGREED THAT SINCE THE SCHOOL PURCHASES THE PAPER AT A MUCH LOWER RATE THAN WE CAN, IT REALLY HELPS THE BOTTOM LINE.

OUR PRINCIPAL DOES LOOK AT ALL NEWSLETTERS AND FLYERS THAT WE SEND OUT. WE DO THIS BECAUSE IT PUTS THE RESPONSIBILITY ON HER. ULTIMATELY, SHE HAS THE RIGHT AS THE PRINCIPAL OF THE SCHOOL TO MAKE THE FINAL DECISIONS.

Same thing here, we buy all the paper, we also pay a yearly fee of $75 for copier upkeep. We also get everything approved through the principal.

We are allowed to make as many copies as need for the school year. We just can't make copies during school hours because that when he teachers use the machines.

All notices have to first go through the PTA Pres. & the Principal before being copied.
