most banks will NOT enforce the 2 signature rule. just like banks don't enforce a post dated check. its all so automated that there isn't a way to "check" that 2 signatures were required

Unless there's a conflict of interest (like maybe the Treasurer and President are married) I don't know of any reason the President shouldn't be on the account. I would think in most PTOs the President is one of the signers.

A general clarification here, if you don't mind... Having two signers on the account is a form of checks and balances. By having a two signature policy is a way of seeing what is going out of your account. If something is questionable, there should be a receipt or paperwork to back up the check in question. The second signer can request it of the treasurer. By having only one signature things can happen, especially theft of funds There are way to many articles in that new block section Tim has put up about theft!
As a past co president, being a signer has enabled me to see what is going on, who checks are going out to and why. Do most banks enforce this procedure? unfortunately no, as we have had some checks go out "in error" without the two signatures on them and they have been cleared. As some other posters have stated previously, it is an internal procedure and you do not have to make it known that the banks do not always enforce the two signature on your account policy that your group might have in place.

P.S. We do not have school personnel on our accounts - ever. :eek:

I think you misunderstood. I am a Co-President. Our treasurer wants us on the account. Our outgoing treasurer and the Principal are the one's telling our new treasuer that we (the co-presidents) can not be on the account. Last years treasurer was the only one on the account But how can she or the Principal tell the new treasuer who can and can't be on the account?

We have the president and treasurer only on the checking account. Our account does not require two signers - we would spend ALOT of time chasing each other around if so! [img]redface.gif[/img] )
