Question for Critter:

Have you created a "what-worked binder" or "what didn't". We are a recently formed PTO and I am new to the position as VP fundraising. In my previous life I had a work in progress book that was sorda kinda an idea folder, plus ideas how to improve ect.. ANYONE HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS?? I would appreciate any input

You could offer a link to a supplier for engraved nametags for the officers, an endorsement stamp for your checks, stickers for school volunteers, inexpensive tote bags (your logo/artwork silkscreened), address stickers and custom notepads...all things that can be easy to get, but if you had a page of "approved" links, that's even easier. Oh... and good PTO clipart!

I thought of more: templates or workplans for typical PTO events like bingo night, carnival, Donuts with Dad, Boo Hoo breakfast, Staff Appreciation Week, silent auction (this could be a real biggy), sock hop, santa shop, etc.

Not necessarilly full-blown kits like the family nights, but just enough info to help the committee get going and make sure they've thought of everything. Obviously, each PTO might have their own twist, but a template/workplan could save some up front planning time. Ideally, the past committee would have left this type of info (ha!), but if the event is brand new, the workplan is that much more valuable.

Tim, we searched for a safe with a drop deposit slot. Lots of money goes into our safe, but only the Treasurer or the President can open it to make deposits.

Also helpful would be a list of all the "filings" a PTO might want to consider: 501(3)c, ficticious name, Employer ID, tax exempt status, IRS Form 990, Articles of Incorp, register with State to solicit, Bond/Insurance.

I've picked up information on most of these from the web site, but feel like I still may have missed something and need a comprehensive list.
