PTO Board Member Power Trip

We had the same problem over the past few years with 2 board members. They felt nobody could ever do the what they do, nor wanted to. They would not let others involved and had the attitude if you don't like it tough. We all finally got fed up enough to do something about it. Near the end of each year we form a nominating committee which consists of 2 board members & 1 person from the floor. The president of the board can not be on this committee. We found people who were interested in filing the positions and those 2 were not nominated. When the nominations are announced, there is opportunity for nonmations from the floor. We thought for sure they would nominate each other, but they never did. I think their ego's were crushed. They showed up for the 1st meeting of the year and have not since attended. They are still waiting and hoping we will fall on our face. Since our new board has taken over things have run so smoothly and we have had a lot more volunteers than ever. We have done everything in our power to get others involved without the click feeling. You need to take a stand and go for it. If they are nominated, have someone run against they and bring it to a vote. If they are as you say, this will be the opportunity to make a change. Good luck! ;)

This is SO not the way you are suppose to do this but say you want to run for her spot, get the nomination (not hard to find someone usually OR in Robert's Rules of Order I have yet to find it where you can't nominate yourself). Next is the part most have a hard time with and will tell you that it is not legal but if you do it right, campaining (with out being political) get your name out there. You tell 5 people, those 5 tell five...you know. If the principal is wanting someone fresh this is a great time to let him/her know of your intrest too. Now my principal will announce to the staff at their AM meeting "Tina is running for president let's show our support".
There are several parents that have an issue with the fact that she mentions who is running for office but many can't make our meeting and are interested.

Look over your by-laws to make sure you go through the nomination and election process correctly (Robert's Rules of Order is a good source, too, balancing your checkbook is easier to read than this book but it a good reference).

I have been on the board of our new schools PTO for two years now under a presidnet who believes it should all be her way or no way. It has gotten to the point where our meetings are now only attended by her close knit group of friends (6). How does one break this up? Our school principal doesn't care for her nor do the teachers yet they "fear" her I have tried to be outspoken and get others to attend to get changes made but to no avail. I am ready to quit myself what I/wedo any suggestions?????
