PTO Board Member Power Trip

I applaud you for hanging on for two years. Two years is a very long time, I know this first hand!! I agree, run for Prez. yourself. You are without a doubt the best person for the job. It will not be easy and it will not all happen overnight, but will be so worth it. I was against bylaws, but have learned that (with people out there like your Prez.)they are necessary. It took us a year to finalize our bylaws, mainly because I was so adament that they would be done right. I knew nothing about bylaws, so I jumped right in and found out all I could. I talked to friends, other organizations, other PTO's, Accountant and Attorney friends, to other posters on this very site. If the NPN had been available then I would have joined, even out of my own pocket. We now have bylaws that I'm happy with (if you'd like a copy, just let me know)even know I fought against them in the beginning. Please know that your Principal and your Teachers are in a very hard spot, between a rock and hard place, so to speak. So "You Go Girl!", you have my vote. Hey, I'll even nominate you! When things get difficult and your next steps are unclear, remember, remember all those smiling little faces that greet you whenever you enter your school!!! GOOD LUCK! Let us know how things turn out.
Peace be with you,
Kidsfirst

Well LAHNH, I'm going to offer something here that you may not like or have been playing with- run yourself for Prez. That's how I broke the cycle, I had a friend nominate me and got the word out to the unhappy "it's always gonna b this way" thinkers and the happy ending is I served last year as President. Yeah it was the hardest thing I have ever done and was teased by my husband about volunteering ever again (lol) BUT the many parents did see the PTO differently and that we are needed at the school.

Think about it though....it's hard but worth it when the first little kid tells you Thank You.

Thanks Bear and mykidsmom. This type of advice has been brought up to me by a few other frustrated parents too. THe problem is, I can't find anyone out of a school of 500 students willing to run for president or VP. They all feel that this is the way it will alsways be (a political hot bed). I have tried my best to let them know it will be this way unless new blood is brought into the mix and not letting the "click" keep board positions. Thank you again!

Bylaws for terms limits were discussed during our initial year (last year) but I was told there was "No need for such formality" by this very person. We don't follow any rules of parlimentary procedure during meetings. How does one get this implemented?????

I really have to agree with Critter... It's great to have new people & ideas! A 2 year term limit is perfect!!! Check yourbylaws there may be term limits hiding in there!! Good Luck..

Propose a bylaw ammendment to limit terms to 2 consecutive years at the same position. She won't be able to run for president again and your PTO will have to elect a new leader.
