Presidential Control Freak

Best of luck to you! Our treasurer and secretary left about the same time and though the former Pres. and others have offered to help with the financial reports, etc. the current Pres. will not allow anyone to see anything. We have no idea what our financial situation is and frankly alot of us are concerned as the Pres. frequently talks about her own lack of funds! We have tried to speak to the Principal who tells us to keep asking and not to worry. The BOE refes us to the Principal! No one seems concerned! The Pres. is supposed to hold a Board meeting this month to try to replace the open offices but we dont have an actual PTO meeting until Feb. We have no way of getting info. The thing you need to do is make certain those who feel as you do will actually stand up and say so instead of backing out to leave you hanging. Let us know how it goes!

I agree with mykidsmom you must have all your ducks in a row & have the facts. It will also help to have some other parents who support you in this.

My main question right now concerns what happened when the treasurer resigned? Why was no one put into the treasurer position to replace her? Did no one want the job, or did she just not seek out a replacement?

BUT BEFORE you do that make sure you are organized and have all the facts straight and support! Nothing is worse tahn asking someone to step down and come to the realization they have NO intentions of stepping down what so ever and make things worse for their board members! (yes, this is the voice of "Been to that island...not going back!)

When you do talk with school admin, I would be ready with the facts and information that suppports your conserns. Something to check into, sometimes (sometimes :)) the school district has someone that can help you with how to find out what you can and can't do. Their legal support (if they have it) is a great resorce, also. The bank reports will probably be the hardest as it's not that easy to just go in a get a statement. unlessthe former Tresurer still has her name on the account or at least paperwork that could be taken to the school and someone from accounting/business office can help with gaining this information.....

Just amke sure you have all your ducks in a row and support from everyone and anyone that agrees with your feelings on the issue.

May the force be with you!

I would suggest talking to the principal then the superintendant of the school if you get no where with the principal. Yes you can request an audit. Yes you can ask for her resignation. Try to get more parents to speak up & back you up but site the reasons as to why she should resign. Good luck.

I have been researching this site for help with our school's problems - thank you for sharing yours! I am not a board member this year but have tried to be very involved with projects & meetings, etc. Our treasurer resigned at the beginning of the year and the pres. has had full control of the checkbook with no accountability since then. She has been making unilateral decisions and turning down requests from teachers without consulting anyone. We are not currently a member of a national PTO or PTA and the bylaws are so vague that they are almost useless. I am trying to gather some support to make changes but I don't really know how to proceed. No one knows exactly how much money we have and/or where it has been spent. The Pres. reported that our recent big fundraiser [a Winterfest] was a bust but it seemed successful...again no real accounting of the profits or costs. She seems to have control issues and intimidates the other board members into silence. Communication with other parents and the teachers is in horrible shape. Morale stinks. This woman has actually lied to me about a couple of issues and I have a hard time dealing with such unprofessionalism and immaturity. We have one daughter getting ready to move on next year to the MS and one in K, so I have 5 more years to invest at this school. Should I request an audit and try to oust the current president or try to start a new, legitimate PTO? Any feedback and/or suggestions with be helpful. I'm sure this is not a unique situation
